I don't even know where to begin with this. Overreaction or delusion?

Ok, so a filmmaker has been talking up how he was going to make a short film about rape. He hates rape and wants to say something about it and inspire awareness and discussion. He gets a TON of stuff donated by RED, and has an entire crew willing to work for free. The first day of filming, over half his crew bails, but he presses on! He finishes the film and puts it online for all to see. It is a heavy-handed and uncomfortable mess of a film, to put it nicely. The thread begins to dissolve into users trying to provide their reactions, criticisms, etc... and it all seems to go right over the guy's head. He responds to everything with unwavering positivity and canned responses about how he's glad it's inspiring discussion, etc.

Anyway... there's been some good Twitter conversations about it, but I'm curious to see what you guys think. Are people overreacting or is this guy at best misguided, at worst delusional?

The link appears not to work, or requires one be a 'red user'.

I can pontificate on the 'general quality' of people who have a deep seated need to get some 'message' out... but given how I mention that, you'd probably be able to intuit my opinion...

Ketch got a Dragon because he's Ketch, lol. There isn't much mystery about that part of the equation. In regards to the project, I can't see it...the Youtube video is removed.

Either way, and I haven't seen the video, isn't this how it usually goes?

I mean crew bailing, that's what always happens with people who work for free. They bail.
The film becoming a mess, that always happen when you A) are inexperienced, and B) have the crew bail on you.
Inexperienced filmmakers who have just saved their film after the crew bailed can never take criticism because after you've done all the work yourself you're simply too close to the film to have an objective opinion on it.

This can happen to any filmmaker. Lesson to be learnt is Pay Your Crew.

I do believe the crew walked out once they saw the script. That has to be big warning sign that your movie will be a piece of crap.

halfway through the film i was expecting him to break out a football and start talking about his future wife, lisa. oh hai street attacker.

Red has to be embarrassed to have so much product placement in a short that has no message at all on a subject that is truly horrible. Sexy models and constant Red camera cutaways while a women is being raped? OMG! Thats why the thread is gone.
This is plain and simply the worst and borderline offensive film I have seen. It doesn't send any message whatsoever about rape, victims and how to prevent it. and resolves nothing in the end on how to deal with the terrible act. I cant believe he put himself in the film either. Wow. Yuck!
For a guy who has a passion about rape victims he sure seemed more interested in the camera than the message. He thanked everybody from Red in the credits and didn't even have a website or phone number to a rape prevention organization, but he sure did thank the folks for the Movi. Sad.

If you read the thread, he claimed this is just a "sample" short -- a precursor for the feature-length film he wants to make on the subject.

At the end of the feature he will need to add a suicide prevention hotline for the viewers.

disclaimer for my post: I have not been sleeping very well and could have stronger opinions today.

Hey Erik hope stuff shapes up with the lens fiascle! (and you get some sleep!)
Thanks buddy! I've been shooting a lot and I'm burnt out. Good stuff but it drains you. Now this clown has me pissed off. Not you Ketch. Ha! Karma is going to get Brandon and it aint going to be pretty.

Wow. Just wow.

Personally, I'd love to see this made into a feature. I need something to replace "The Room" for Saturday night quote-alongs.

Just goes to show... Even if someone gives you the hottest newest yet to be released to the public camera with an ultra super sensor and latitude out the ass, it doesn't mean you will be able to deliver a viable product by using it.

Well, there seems to be very little on this around the web now - sadly (or luckily - depending on your point of view!), I didn't get to see this short before it was removed.

Maybe some more work on it and a more detached editorial eye will help?

Time will tell.

Nope. I saw the film and commented three times in the thread on RedUser. It is beyond saving. It is a reprehensible, narcissistic and offensive little film that reflects extremely poorly on everyone involved. Think yourself lucky you didn't see it. My wife, who is not easily offended was genuinely upset by it. They should all hang their heads in collective shame.

What staggers me is how so many people are taken in by Ketch Rossi and his web of lies. I've been threatened with lifetime ban on RedUser for calling him to account in the past. Bizarre.
