ok so as some of you know my XL2 was stolen last week so i was kind of forced into buying a new camera since i'd be without a job if i did not have one. so i decided to take the plunge and purchase a HD100. i am pretty happy with my decision and am very greatful to my friends who are lending me tripods and such to save me the cost of all that equipment for now. so tomorrow i will start my treck into the HD world. it better not make me miss my XL2 more then i already do now.

Nice choice Matthew! Congratulations on the purchase! =)

You should be pleasantly pleased with the HD100U as it is much more than just a mere "step up". Pretty soon you'll be saying "XL2? I had an XL2?... When!?" =D

haha well that makes me feel much better since i was unhappily parted from my XL2. I'm sure i'll be glued to this forum when i'm not glued to the camera as to learn more about shooting HD.

I sold an xl2 to purchase the HD100, and couldn't be happier.

There are a number of things that I really like about this camera, and the images are stunning. You will not regret your decision.

One of the greatest things you'll notice is that, no matter what the issue, you have a HUGE family behind you supporting you, answering your questions and, perhaps more importantly, pointing you in the right direction when we can't personally answer your questions. Historically, this was the almost exclusive domain of Panasonic's offerings. With JVC's HD100, you've got some great and experienced minds using the camera and taking the time to contribute to this forum. Recently I asked Jarred if JVC could have it's own section much the same as the HVX200 has. I've yet to hear back from him but have high hopes. So...welcome to the family, Matthew. We'll have our arguments but it's truly a family nonetheless.

Haha. I'm not usually one to argue but I'm glad to be a part of the family. I just received my HD100 a few hours ago and it truely is amazing. i was thinking it was going to be maybe a small step up from the xl2 but let me just say WOW! I am blown away. I'm not to fond of the battery life but really who is? So, tomorrow I'll send in the certificate for the idx pack and hopefully they won't take too long to get one back to me. I'm just lucky that the shoot I'm doing this weekend allows the opportunity to plug straight into the wall. So, are there any recommendations for me straight off the bat?
