I bought my F35 a friend!

Continuing my old-school theme, I appear to be moving backwards.

Anyone got any short-ends they are willing to donate?

Heh. You know, I started in digital. Went to a 4 year state school, low tuition. Never dealt with "film school" and never actually learned to shoot film. And for the past year or so I've been thinking about doing exactly what you did... buy a used film camera now that they're so cheap and I already own the full compliment of Arri support gear and have both 35mm Ultra Primes and 16mm Superspeeds. What's held me back so far is all the processing cost... The $30k Blackmagic film scanner looks very interesting though. If I just paid for developing the negatives, and did my own digitizing, that might be feasible.

Not got the cash flow just yet though, and the development cost still looks pricey. I wonder if that blackmagic scanner will end up available as a rental?

535B! How much does this baby weigh? I was thinking of picking one up before I got into the F35 world ;-)

That eyepiece extender alone was worth more than a lot of 4K cameras cost now !

From memory in its day wasn't this a half million $$$$$$$ cam system ? I remember film mags that go with this costing $10K each alone !

For a hoot heres the original 2006 quoted prices on the above.

Wow. Gangs of New York shot on that beauty.

Spotted an ebayer selling some Kodak 35mm short ends..
"5260 35mm 500T Kodak Motion Picture Film Short Ends (2100' Total)" - $165.00 + $103.05 shipping

That's about 25 mins in the can for $268.05 (£158)

Nice buy. I've still got an Eclair ACL, but everything I have in stock is 16mm, nothing in the league of this. Kind of cool that as film "dies" DP's are able to buy dream cameras. Of course like you said in the other thread, Producers are taking control of the camera selection, but it's stills an awesome arsenal. Hopefully you find directors who want to give the control back to the DP and beautiful things happen.

When do we get the Vision 3 vs F35 test?

I found that price list too - I've got about 150,000 euro worth of stuff for less than 1% of the new cost! Pretty pleased with myself. Even if it just sits on my shelf, it looks badass.

Comparisons with the F35 will follow. Initial thoughts are that it is BIG and HEAVY - even by F35 standards. It is the usual ARRIFLEX build quality - like a brick outhouse.

I was quite careful when choosing a camera to buy, because I knew that all my F35 accessories would fit this. Even the power outputs are the same and I am getting a cable made up for my battery by Hawkwoods as I have a battery which does 12+24V out.

If you want to see film vs F35, check out the test panavision did a while ago. They'll do better than I can!

Oh and it is 4-perf. I wanted to get a 3-perf, but people are still asking a lot for them. In truth though, it is nice because I can then do anamorphic if the opportunity arises.

Depending on how the year goes I might even see about getting another one. There's a place near me selling them very very cheap. It's Ex-Panavision too, so it has been looked after.
