I Bit The Bullet!

Thanks to the users of this board and the clips of those who shared, esp Bob Gundu and Richard Darge, I decided to bite the bullet. So this morning I hit the rode, drove to Dallas and bought an HVX! So here I sit with my beautiful HVX in front of me, waiting for the battery to charge. I just wanted to say thanks to everyone for helping make the decision an easy one.

You won't be disappointed. It's a great camera. Congratulations!
BTW, my batteries take about six hours to charge. I don't mean to hijack this post, but is this normal? And, if so, does anyone know of a good "quick" charger?

Lenmar makes quick chargers...I don't love them, but everyone uses them. You just have to make sure everytime you put a new battery on that you unplug and replug the powercord to reset the brain.

I'll give you a doller if you most some nice shots of magic hour. Perhaps even the sun setting over a mass of water.

aelent, you have just purchased the most versital new tool in the industry. Affordable, professional, able to leap tall buildings in a single bound kinda product.
There are many products that do 1/3 of the features better, but none that do as much as well. There are not very many jobs you can't take if your ability is up to it!!! I LOVE THAT!!!!:love4:

Enjoy your new toy! I just wish I had more time to explore all the features and options. Heck, I'm having trouble finding any time to play with it.

I can't wait for NAB to compare all the options for the HVX. AND investigate products to smooth the "aquire to deliver" HD process.

careful of the lenmars.. i have had so many of those kerplunk on me its not funny. 6 hours is about right... but it should get to 80 percent in about 3 hours.

the batteries are non memory, so you dont need to fully charge between charges.

You should have come by and said Howdy, we could have had an old-fashioned Texas OK corral shoot-out!!
Welcome to the club!!

I've been using the rapid charger by lenmar for years (3-4) and never had a problem other than having to unplug it occassionally to reset the meter. It always charges the batteries but sometime doesn't properly indicate that it is charged or not until I reboot it. I have owned 2. The first one didn't go bad or anything, I just bundled it with my DVX when I sold it on EBAY 2 years ago and then got one for my Xl2 and now I am using it for the HVX.

Well I charge about 50 batteries every week.. so i really torture these things, my advice may not be typical. All my Lenmars failed, which is why i stopped buying them. I finally got one of the dolgin chargers that are incredible (but expensive) and the good old OEM panasonic chargers have never skipped a beat.

BTW, we offer 2 year warranty/30 Day Satisfaction Guarantee on all our products when ordered through the DVXUSER store.
On the subject of reliability, other than overall construction quality of a charger, there is a dirty secret that most regular folks do not know. In order to charge a Li-Ion pack correctly, the charge voltage has to be controlled very precisely, as described in the Sanyo Li-Ion manual http://www.dolgin.net/Sanyo.pdf page 12.
If the charge voltage is higher than that by just 1%, the Li-Ion pack is getting irreversibly damaged on every charge. If the voltage is lower than need to be by 1%, the pack is undercharged by about 10% of its nominal capacity.
The makers of the cheap chargers are unlikely to put in extra few bucks to make it right , especially when nobody is looking :-(
