I bet they don't make it.

"Mars500 is a 520-day simulated mission to Mars. The sealed mockup includes an interplanetary spaceship, a Mars lander and a martian landscape. Housed in Russia’s Institute of Biomedical Problems (IBMP) in Moscow, the modules provide 550 m³ of living space."

I got $50 bucks says the three Russians make the two Europeans and one Chinese their bit*ches within a week. It is like a Uber Geek version of "Big Brother".

I remember a few years back hearing about a similar long-duration-flight-simulation that had to be canceled when things began turning to physical assault and sexual harassment...

Not sure if knowing you're actually still on Earth and can leave at any time affects it positively or negatively. What they can't really simulate is being absolutely stuck with no way out.

The best way to fix this would be 1) make the "spaceship" lava-proof and drop them in a volcano or 2) station the experiment in Oklahoma. Either way, they're guaranteed to not come out.

If they were in Oklahoma, wouldn't they be more likely to want to exit . . . sooner?
