I bet no one here...

I bet that no one here can find out where I can buy an Ultra White Tungsten Bulb that is 3200k, so it would replicate the color of daylight. An example of one is in the sticky at the top of the lighting section. I have been going nuts because I have been searching ALL OVER for these bulbs with the "blue" coating. I am starting to think that they don't exist. If anyone can point me in the direction of them, I would be very pleased. Thanks!

Hmm, daylight is 5600k.

Normally you would use a correction Gel to change the color temparature of a light.

The guy in the sticky has 3200k, but I think that Blue tint on the bulb gives it that extra "sunlight" imitation.

A little confusion on color temp...

Mikko is correct, 5600k is daylight. 3200k is tungsten.

You can buy blue tinted tungsten bulbs that burn hotter, but they are at about 4k, or you can buy 5600k fluo bulbs.

really any little halogen kit like that generally has bulbs with a temp around 3000k , and should work fine with the 3200k preset on your cam. a 200k temp change isnt anything drastic. the same as daylight isnt exactly 5600k on any given day, yet we shoot with the 5600k preset. quite obviously the light outside is a different color when its dark and gloomy and raining vs sunset/sunrise vs high noon on a clear day vs in a forest in the mist vs a snowy evening. if you really wany or need to be shooting perfectly balanced to the temp in the location, then just perfom a manual white balance on a white card, and your all set, but the 3000k lamps in those halogen fixtures should blend fine with any normal 3000k range tungsten practicals around the common indoor set.

..also, just FYI, but this site here:

is an excellent place to get all sorts of 5550k 93 CRI long and compact flouros for pretty cheap. they match a 5600k preset perfectly, and according to them were actually designd by the same guy that invented the KINO-FLO brand of lighting. quite a while back i spoke with these guys at length and they said that the only real difference between these and kino flos in terms of light output is that the kinos undergo a little addtional proccessing and what not to bring them to a more stringent standard, but for the most part its all the same manufacturing. ive had some of these ever since, and they've been absolutely great whenever ive needed to pull them out.

wow, thanks Neil for all that information. I will definetely look into purchasing one of those lights too. Do they flicker at all, or are they a pretty solid light.

question...i've got a bunch of bulbs that say daylight and are at 6500K...the GE reveal bulbs, though they say daylight, have a disclaimer that says "not rated at 6500K" or words to that effect. anyway i found this..

so i guess there's white and daylight???

I just buy Philips' "full spectrum" flourescent bulbs at Home Depot. Once you white balance to them, they're perfectly "white" with no flicker. Philips' Natural Sunshine (5000K) is regular stock at Southern California Home Depot centers. Philips also makes Daylight Deluxe (6500K), but Home Depot doesn't carry those. This is what they used to light the entire offices, green room, etc. of the now cancelled Ryan Seacrest TV show (which was all daylight), so that they were daylight-balanced no matter where they shot in their studio/offices.
