I believe my camera body was once owned by Able Cine Tech

Recently, I sold my Varicam 27f and purchased a Varicam 27H Body in immaculate condition and it had an able cine barcode on it (i've since removed it upon cleaning it) and i was wondering if I have the serial out, if someone on here could possibly tell me if Able did indeed own my body at one point. Just interested in the history of my replacement varicam body.. btw, the H's image is far superior out of the SDI than the F.. very very clean! =]

The H had better/newer chips(CCD's) and processing. Cleaner image. I never owned an F, but I was told that the F also didn't have a user accessible circuit breaker reset(bottom rear on the H) and if you tripped it, you were F'd because you had to send the cam in for service.

It was possibly in their rental fleet(or maybe a demo unit). Check the hours and see if they're in the stratosphere. If they're crazy high, it's probably a good bet it was a rental. You could also just call them and ask them.

For a point of reference, I purchased mine new in December '06 and it has 1,930 Operation hours and 1,190 hours on the drum/heads(I've replaced the heads once, I believe).

The H is definitely a lot cleaner than the F.

There are two possibilities for that camera: either it was owned by AbelCine Rentals outright or it was owned by an individual who kept it parked at AbelCine Rentals for subrenting. Just give a call to AbelCine Rentals in NY or LA and ask. Should only take then a few seconds to look it up. That is if the old records weren't purged when they moved to a new inventory system a few years ago.
