I Am Legend

And perhaps Produced by Dino DeLaurentis :grin:

If he puts his grand daughter in the flick I would be first in line to see the movie. But seriously folks....

The thing about this movie that ate at me has already been said. But, I'll repeat it anyway. I just watched this flick last night at a drive-in double feature and gotta say, I woke up early this morning just kinda mad at this flick.

I also had a problem with this chick arriving out of nowhere. For starters, he is driving on the dock like a flipping maniac. Wreaking havoc. Its pitch dark at this point, the zombies are on a tear. Yet, she claims she heard his broadcast and have been waiting there all day. Where was she hiding out during all of this maniac hit and run action? Where is this HMI Ray light gun that she uses?

And not to sound like a coward, though concerning zombies I am, these vampire-like creatures are freaking OUT 'A CONTROL. I just got the sense from the entire movie that neither he nor she had any amount of respect towards the damage they can do. They were incredibly careless. If they come out when the sun sets, I am locking my a$$ up at LEAST an hour beforehand. Yet, she stayed at the s.street. sea port until AFTER dark??? WTF??? Logic would say she'd get outta there, hide, and consider that tomorrow is another day. Yeah, I know. That wouldn't have moved the story forward. Well, write it better I say.

Also, as been stated, HOW did she get on the island? All of the bridges were blown up? Does she have a boat car? Or a a magic car perhaps? I mean, she apparently can get on and off the island with ease.

As for Will Smith's reaction to her the next morning (this isn't a knock on him but the writing) his reaction seemed off to me and unrealistic. I can expect him to be leery and confused. But as soon as it started to dawn on him that that she was in fact real and not a mirage and standing in his kitchen, another human being, you would think there would be at least a BIT of elation. I mean, some sort of human contact. I wanted him to just grab her. Not in a sexual way but to connect with another human being, stanger or no. An embrace. A hug, a tight squeeze. Something. An outpouring of SOME sort of relief. I felt the scene and Will Smith's character needed it.

Also, I probably missed something so maybe somebody can help me out. Earlier in the flick he tests the serum on that zombie girl. It kills her. He then injects, what appears to be his blood, inside of her. Of course, now that I am typing this I think I am figuring it out...but why would he do that? How did that bring her back to life? Is it because she is a vampire-like chick and vampires traditionally crave blood? I just don't get the connection of how he knew to stick, what I thought was, blood in her. Then of course at the end of the flick he sees how healthy the zombie chick looks and realizes it was his blood that did the trick, right? That makes no sense to me. How would he know to inject her with blood in the first place?

Also, why did these zombies have a vendetta against Will Smith? As Will Smith logged in his tape recorder they officially had NO more signs of any humanistic qualities. Yet, they had revenge? Or, sport? Not sure what it was but you'd think they would just want to run wild and survive at night...which would include finding food. But to seek out Will Smith as if to terrorize him. Made no sense. Like Desica said, in The Omega man, the zombies still maintain many real human qualities and so it would be believable that they would want to put a bullseye on the last mans back. In fact, if I remember correctly, there was even a scene with the zombies yelling up to Heston with a megaphone. Huh. Come to think of it, maybe that wasn't such a great movie after all. Scared the crap out of me as a kid though...

SPZ- I am not a comic book fan. At all. Back in the 80's my friend, a HUGE comic book fan told me of The Dark Knight series from DC comics. I guess in comic books the superheros are more human than usually portrayed on the big screen. But in this series, Batman and Superman actually get into it. They wind up at each others throats and battle each other. When he told me this I thought "wouldn't it be great if they made THAT movie?!" I'm sure MANY more here can comment far better than I can but I wonder if that poster in Times Square didn't hint at this? That would be a fantastically interesting movie.

But I digress...back to this schlock we call I AM LEGEND....

I actually really liked the first two acts as well. I had a couple plot / design issues with it, though:

1. Zombies seemed way to strong and fast. There needs to be a balance between weak and slow lurching "day of the dead" ones and rabid "28 days later" ones. I mean, they started out being human, right? How strong could they be?

2. I would've holed up in the top floor of some big skyscraper. Block the ingress / egress properly and you're safe practically forever - right? No - he holes up in a condo for crying out loud! With a wood door on the ground floor!!!!!

3. Where is the evidence of the Dark Seekers rampage during the day? No bodies, no destruction, no...nothing. During the day it's as if they don't exist.

4. Where is the evidence of the fact that 5.5 billion people died? Even after three years there would be bones and almost decomposed corpses everywhere.

5. The colony seemed ultra lame.

Other than that it was Ok.

This film made me so angry at the end I yelled "what the f**k was that?" in the imax half most of the theatre laughed.

Will smith excellent performance, great first acts, etc. It had the makings of being an excellent film. Then the day for night scene came up and I instantly could feel things going sour. I felt like someone a long the way decided to basically pull a superman 2 and just re shoot and bullshi* the ending and we just haven't heard about it.

I seems impossible for me to think that the same creative forces behind the first half could have missed the mark so hard on the second half.

She says that she came on a boat in the scene where she is making him breakfast and uses his last amount of bacon.

My two cents, I loved it. :)

I just saw the movie a day ago, I really enjoyed it. There are some answers for some of those problems though.

1) The virus that infected everyone increases anger and rage. That could be an explaination for their psycotic angry outbursts. Something they never touched on but it could be possible is the increased heart rate and stuff could result in large amounts of addreneline.

2) His house was fine, it was protected, had an escape route, bombs everywhere, locked up, and it was his house before the attack. I think it was his house anyways, it had a complete lab that I assume he had at his home before all the craziness.

3) The whole place was pretty destroyed, why would they even rampage at all they don't have anything to chase. Its basically just walking around looking for food.

4) Not sure on this one, but from what was said, everyone was eaten so odds are most of the evidence would be in buildings where they were dragged. It would be nice to see something though outside. 3yrs with normal weather would wipe away a lot of what you might see anyways.

5) Colony looked fine to me, not sure what you expected. It was basically a motif for a utopia type idea. I think it fit that fine.

overall I enjoyed the film, especially the scene where Smith is explaining to the woman that "everyone you and I have ever known.....IS DEAD! ....DEAD.....DEAD...." That was a great moment.

Although I enjoyed the film on its own level, it was a disapointment overall. I read the book and loved it, the book inspired Romero's Night of the Living Dead and also has been listed by Stephen King as one of the books that made him want to become a writer

Whose idea it was to use CGI Vampires should be banned from Hollywood.

I think they skipped over way too much backstory and the flashbacks were 'blah'. In the book, Matheson goes into great detail as the plague hits society and how his family is infected and inevitably dies.

Anyways, one 'scary' scene and just a toal lack of vampires thoughout the film.

A fun movie, but forgettable

Hmmmm. I was so pissed by the plot holes that I didn't even find it a fun movie...:zombie_smiley:
