Hi everyone .. :)

I just wanted to let you know that I will be getting a full-turnkey Symphony Nitris DX System instead of MC Nitris DX system. I will get with that MC software for in field editing with a notebook PC, so then I can transfer the project to Symphony for finishing.

The best price I got for the Symphony system is $52,600 which include:

- HP XW8600 Dual Quad-Core Intel ® Xeon ® 3.0GHz, Vista 64 Bit with NVIDIA QUADRO FX3700, 16 GB RAM, 250 GB 7200 RPM SATA drive, DVD+/- RW drive, 15,000 RPM SATA Additional Drive

- Avid Symphony Nitris DX System
- Avid Nitris DX Hardware
- Avid VideoRAID SR 8TB storage (16-bay rackmount enclosure with (16) 500GB SATA HDD drives and RAID Controller & 3M cable.)

And MC Software is $2,495

The question now if I should get the Avid Contract Support or not!! it will cost $3K or more for one year, which include:

- Free Software update, Software Feature releases and Software Maintenance Releases

- Unlimited Telephone Technical Support including Extended Technical Emergency Telephone Support (7x24)

- Extended Avid Hardware Warranty - Provides hardware replacement for functional components ( Extended Hardware Warranty does NOT cover external drives, drive chassis, computers, monitors, keyboards, mice and all cables)

- Immediate Advance Shipping Of Avid Parts and next working day delivery

Access to the Customer Support Avid Knowledge Base

And Avid representative in Dubai said the following:
software upgrade for Symphony is around US 1500 we usually release 4 major upgrade/ year. The advantage with hardware support is the advance replacement of the entire hardware, also he will get the avid 24/7 phone. I would really recommend the support at least for the first year.

How accurate is his statement?

I appreciate every feedback ... Thanks

I have an MC Adrenaline system and get charged $2K per year. There are upgrades that come along, and I get them all free. It is also nice to have phone support. Most of the questions that come up could be resolved if I would spend time and post and research on the forums. However, since I have the phone support, I make all my freelancers call tech support with ANY question, much faster answers. Also when there are bizzare issues, you have a resource to call that cant keep transferring you around. Finally, if you've never been on an Avid before, you might have a lot of questions your first year...might be worth it.

I think if you're prepared to spend over $52k for a pro editing system, what's another $3k for peace-of-mind? I say go for it. :)

Training DVD!!

Training DVD!!

Is there an updated Training DVDs for Symphony, and where can I find it?
Will Media Composer Training DVDs will be useable and applicable for Symphony? If yes, where can I buy them?

Thanks for every help :)

Sorry, I meant pics once you get it all installed in your place since I've never seen an actual Symphony in person. :)

I love seeing editor rooms.
