So, I finally went out and skirmished with an airsoft team, after they cordially invited me several times before and had to decline.

Spent all day with these guys and worked against a newer team to give them practice.
Ran about 5 battles of 6 on 6 then one at 4 on 4.

Mind you, I am 39 and "thought" I was still in good shape. Wrong! I am so sore, I had to nearly crawl upstairs. Dear God, why do I do this to my body???

Oh, BTW, voted in as a full member of the team by unanimous decision. I need to start working out or they will find me dead on the field.

keep doing it! repetition, muscle memory....you'll be hangin in there...unless you're like me. i'm 33 and i've been drinking beer with my left hand recently. my right arm is feeling so old. 12oz curls...

The type of activity in which you engaged is very rough on the body. Lots of sudden starts, abrupt stops, and contorting. If you had gone running for an hour, you would probably feel only a fraction of the pain. Thirty-nine is still very young; you just need to use your head more than the younger guys. Listen to your body in order to avoid injuries which require you to take extended breaks.

LOL, Ya think? No argument from me! I am sitting here contemplating just sleeping here at the desk, the bed is just too far away. I did do my stretches prior to the day, so no permanent injury, just plain sore.

But I did something nobody has been able to do for 6 years, I got a particular guy to surrender. Snuck up on him, drew my Glock GBB (it was too close for the MP5), and whispered "surrender", he had no idea I was working up on him. Nice feather in my cap.

Skinny!, I found doing 12 ounce curls mundane and ineffective, so I went for full muscle burn using 40 oz MGD bottles, and switching every so often, and sometimes doing bilateral curls with 2 40's was much more appropriate.

Listen to your elders...

Listen to your elders...

You're six years younger than me. Trust me. Glucosamine Chondroiton and Ibuprofen work.

But I am finding Scotch is helping nicely for right now. The morning, that will be another story.

Basically you've discovered the reason why people get into upper management.......

LOL, I don't think it would be very diplomatic of me to join an established team, and then suddenly declare myself a "general".

Unfortunately, I'm the newbie on the team (them's the breaks). But, on the otherhand, I am going to be training these guys for film work (my private crew). Then.....I am the boss. See, I had an ulterior motive doing this. And they knew it as well. Going to give them a bit of stage combat training, minor stunts, put 'em through my advanced weapons course, and voila, a "have guns/training, will travel" crew of actors for those productions that cannot afford to train their own cast. We will be doing a demo reel just for them. And with my relationship with FPS Productions, I will have it shot on a Red. Yeah, buddy!

That's how I felt the first time I got on the paintball field in a few years. Mind you, I am pretty young. Haven't played paintball since 2004 when I was on a semi-pro (D2) team. Hit the field last May for the first time since then, and boy did I feel terribly out of shape. I was utterly worthless on the field.

Needless to say, I want to start playing again. But I'll probably wait till I move out to LA to get started again.

Bah, Paintball! Airsoft is real. Well....almost. LOL. Move out here, and I'll introduce you to the team. I used to be on "Lil' Rascals" Paintball team (took Novice 3rd place at the Pan-Am games in Vegas back in 199-something) and ran a PB field in Running Springs (Pali Mtn. Adventures). You want realism? Airsoft, the big boy way. No spring pistols here, we run AEG's and GBB's, 400 FPS min.

I am so into it. And if you join the team, the added benefit, I will put you on film as an actor. Matty, contact me when you are out here.

Wuss. At 39 I had joined a rugby team, played with San Jose State during the summer, played co-ed softball, fencing and worked out at the gym. Of course my body is shot now, but come on now, barely climb the stairs, get to it!!!

Also buy Joint Builder and Tiger Balm.

I'll be contacting a lot of people when I move out there. January now, no set date.

I was on a few teams. It was right around the time everyone was getting out of paintball. It was enjoyable. But we were playing in tournaments mostly, did a scenario game once. It was the battle for Sadam City. Our little group was playing the part of a special operations terror cell.

It was the most fun I ever had out on the field. Airsoft? I never got into.

But I will definitely let you know when I get out there.
