Hypothetical Question regarding OLPF

Would it not be possible for Canon etc to have a mechanised system whereby, when the mirror goes up for live view (in video mode)... an OLPF then moves up to cover the sensor?

I'm no technical guy... but it seems like a simple solution to avoid moire/aliasing.

Is this theoretically possible?

That is an interesting point. I think issue may arise with the shutter and the placement of the OLPF. I don't know if there is room with the shutter for one to be there.

I would rather (though this is a HUGE long shot) them put in a much more powerful processor and have a process to downres from the full to 1080P in software rather than line skipping. I know that the likelihood of that happening is very low as it would take alot of processing power....

I think it is coming, the new JVC chip (falconbird) seems to have enough power for this. I'm sure Digic V will be similar in power.

I agree, but I think it'd be a far sight cheaper to put in a flipping OLPF as opposed to a powerful processor. Assuming that they do either, lol.

possibly....
I think that the faster processor would give better results....

Oh, don't get me wrong, a faster/better/more efficient processor would totally be ideal over the flipping OLPF. I'm just saying that if the camera were to make concessions for video, an OLPF would be cheaper.

Good OLPF's are expensive and have to align perfectly with the sensor for best result. They are usually bonded to the sensor, not movable.
Processor chip is probably cheaper to manufacture in quantity than a good 35mm sized OLPF.
