Hyperdeck Shuttle - It's Out Now, Any EX User Experiences?

The thread title says it all. BlackMagic Design's uncompressed recorder started shipping I believe over a month ago. Has anyone used it with an EX1/3 yet? I think we'd all love to hear some feedback/see some stills if possible.

I´m still fighting the MAC formated SSD, since I´m on PC.
I found a program that works on PC (TransMac) but it copies really slow.

My wish list in the moment:

1. NTSC SSDs
2. AVI instead of MOV
3. reduce the audio tracks

All that would really enhance my workflow.

Right now every clip comes with 7 audio tracks - so I have to delete 5 or 6 of them manually all the time.

I'm looking at the blackmagic for my af100 but am wondering about using this device on PC. Are you finding any issues with the mov files or any of the workflow in general?

Sounds disappointing. I'm surprised Black Magic Design would only support a niche platform and not a mainstream one. Seems that they're losing out on a lot of sales by doing that. I remember using Transfer Pro, back when I had to work with prepress service bureaus in 1991, and it was a pain and rather slow, especially with the 44mb Syquest cartridges we had to write our color seps out to. No way will I go back to that kind of thing again.

The only real PITA in the moment is the HFS+ formated SSD on a PC. If BM would have allowed NTFS we would be golden.
I really hate to deal with Apple stuff on a PC, it´s always awkward.

Once the files are on your PC, they work just great as any other BM file - besides the 7 audio tracks.
I understand they have 7 audio tracks because that´s what a full blown HDSDI signal is, but I wish I would have the option to only record two.

...especially with the 44mb Syquest cartridges we had to write our color seps out to.

OHMYGAWD - 44mb Syquest - I totaly forgot that POS. Yeah, back in those days 44mb was a lot, but never enough.

Since there is an unused button, labeled "Display" on the shuttle, I hope there will be some more options and controls in the future.
BMD does a lot via firmware on their other products.

Meanwhile, I'll be sitting on the sidelines waiting for a Windows compatible HD-SDI recording solution to hit the market.

The Nanoflash is looking nicer. But I'm hoping the Samurai rocks but I'm not a Final Cut user...

I just started playing with my Shuttle, using a 60GB SSD, and my humble Canon HV40 hooked up via HDMI.

When I put the footage on to the deaktop and check the specs, it is indeed 1920X1080, 10-bit, codec component Y'CbCr. A 12 second file is 1.26G.........

So, I expected some problems playing it back in any NLE, but I imported it into Final Cut Express anyway. It played back very choppy and jerky.

When I exported it as a QT file, using H.264, then took it into After Effects CS5, it still played jerky. Even when I rendered it out and made a DVD of it, it played jerky on my TV....

I'm no expert, and I must be doing something wrong, but I can't figure out what exactly.

Can anyone give me some tips on this, please?

Thanks.

.

.

Transcode the uncompressed footage into something like ProRes (or DNxHD or Cineform... if you have them) to take into AE, then do your final render in H.264 or avi or whatever format your media player likes.

All I can say is 1.26GB for 12 seconds? Forget about a 2 hour concert from four cameras! Yikes...

Alot of people are getting taken by this product...they see the price and think "wow, what a good deal", until they realize that the size of the video is around 10GB per 1min of footage...the cost of SSD drives effectively makes the Hyperdeck Shuttle more expensive than any other external recorder. You need a ~600GB SSD in order to record an hour of footage.
