Ok, so I'm getting around to feeling like I need to pick up a proper video camera of some sort to shoot A roll at weddings with proper audio. Up to now, I've been using Canon DSLRs. I own a 5D3, 5D2 with a Mosaic Engineering filter and running Magic Lantern and a 60D. I'm pretty comfortable using the DSLR since I have a long photo background but have been dealing with the limitations of DSLR use for shooting weddings. I'm looking to get a camera that can record longer clips without the length limitations and would like proper audio recording with XLR inputs and monitoring. I have workarounds to solve the audio monitoring using Magic Lantern and the JuicedLink DT454, but would still like to just roll the camera for the entire length of a ceremony.
Now, I'm wondering if the HVX200a would be a good camera to acquire for this purpose. Ideally, I'd like to get a Sony FS-100 or even better, an FS-700 but they're both a little more than I'd like to spend at this point. Would the footage from the HVX cut decently well with my Canon DSLR footage? I understand the small sensor and lack of shallow depth of field are limitations. What would the advantages be over perhaps a Sony VG30? Any thoughts, comments, ideas from those who are familiar with the HVX200 would be much appreciated! Thanks!
