HVX's LCD sucks!

Hello,

I have had my HVX200 since December of 07...i have gotten amazing footage from the camera...but my only problem with this jewel of a cam is its LCD and EVF. The images are soft as hell and i cant focus for **** on the thing. I was messing with my friends DVX100B the other day and noticed how much better the LCD was on it!

Why make such a professional camera and load it with a **** monitor?

I mean i would love to just go out and spend 800 bucks on an external monitor but i cant..i dont have the money. What would you guys recommend i do? I am really thinking about selling the camera this summer if i am still having problems with the LCD....

Thanks,
Mike

It's the same LCD as the 100B.

There are three focus assists on the 200. The EVF detail, as you saw, the pixel-for-pixel focus assist, and the focus meter, which gives you the exact distance from the lens which is in focus. Using these assists, or combinations of them, should get you where you need to be, focus-wise.

if it is the same LCD the more reason Panasonic should really do something about it in the successor of the HVX200 despite the focus assist, focus reading etc.

Then they changed the LCD from what was on the 100A to what was on the 100B. I was shooting with them side by side the other day and my 100A kicked the crap out of the HVX's LCD.

Yeah the LCD and EVF stink on the HVX. Sony camcorders have some of the best LCD hardware for monitoring, even on their consumer models. When ever I do a job I rent out a highend Panasonic HD monitor for the HVX.

In a worse case scenario, when an highend HD monitor is out of reach, the pixel to pixel focus assist on the HVX isn't all that bad. I've had 100% success rate using it.

Sure for the best result, you need a good HD monitor like the Nebtek or Panasonic for accurate focus and exposition or you can use the 3 focus assist from the camera...the best you can.

I'm not saying any of you are wrong, but I've never had a problem using it and I'm darned near 50 years old. :)
Definitely for HD, I use the focus assist.

Maybe it's because having a large color screen is a blessing after 30 years with a 1" B&W viewfinder. :)
Maybe I'm giving Panasonic a pass for not incorporating the most expensive LCD screen on a 5K camera. :)
But to say it sucks is a streatch. IMHO. :(

Not to mention it's always a good idea to utilize a decent larger monitor whenever it's important and possible.

Sell you HVX and buy a Sony, I'm with Ted it's nice just to have a large color screen, or hook up to a broadcast monitor.
