HVX200E (PAL) + FCP5 Question

Hello Everyone.

I am planning to buy an HVX200E (PAL) when it will be available in Europe to use it with FCP, but in the list of the FCP 5.0.3 sequence presets :
Presets.jpg

i see that there is a DVCPRO HD 720p24 but not a DVCPRO HD 720p25.
Does anybody know something about that?
Should we (PAL users) wait for a -maybe- 5.0.4 update to fix that?

Any info is very appreciated!

To Mods : I don't know if it's the right forum (maybe FCP would be), so
feel free to move it to the right place.

Thanks a lot in advance!
(and sorry if my english isn't so good :( )

Hmmm, never tought of that one. I'm a final cut pro user and really would like to use 720/50P... Any answer to that? If this isn't fixed, how are we going to use the variable frame rates from the camera in PAL?

I have the same question as I wanted to film a video clip in HDV SD50p with the JVC ProHD (as the hvx200 is not yet out) camera but it's impossible to edit it with FCP! I think it's realy a shame that the softwares aren't compatible when these cameras come out!

I wondered about that one too.

What do those who use the Varicam in Europe do at the moment? Use something other than FCP I guess!

Hurry up Apple! We need 25p!

I think, the capture / sequence settings will be DVCPro HD-1080i 50, like the DVX:
The CCD´s produce a progressive Scan of the image, but stored with an interlaced codec.

You're right it's stored as a 50i stream for 1080, but 720 is progressive in either 24p, 25p, 30p, 50p or 60p. FCP only supports 24, 30, and 60 at the moment. They still need to add 25p and 50p.

It's easy. If the sequence preset dont exisit. You make one. It's easy, just choose a sequence that is KIND of the one you're looking for, then click edit. Here you can set the framerate, resolution, blendingoptions, compressor etc... It's really a easy task. It's actually so easy, that after you've done it once, you're going to feel stupid about asking about it...

Still, there aren't any stupid questions.

This is true, this is BIG TRUE! I see more choices now! :)
Thanks a lot!

Hi, everybody!!!

The problem is that you can not change the preset of the capture setting for DVCPRO-HD 720 to a frame rate of 50 or 25. In fact, the codec is named "720p 60"I think that you have to do a process of pulldown to work at another frame rate. But Final Cut Pro only have a tool to make it and only to 24 and 30. I do not know if when we import from the P2 it was different.

Personaly, the last time that I work in the postproduction of a short film record with the Varicam I capture the footage via decklink and uncompressed. It has a preset to capture at 25p the frame rate with wich the film was shot.

Wait and see ;-)
Apple will publish new codecs when they become necessary...
And the camera manufacturer lets them know which codecs are
to be used in new cameras. As JVC did not do that there is no
HDV720p25 codec available from Apple. And expect the appropriate
codecs for the HVX200E when it will be shipped. There is no
need for such codecs right now.

P.S.: Please adhere to the correct denomination of codecs.

Wow, such confidence! That's why the JVC people are still waiting for the hdv720P25 to appear in FInal Cut!

"The camera manufecturer lets them know which codecs are to be used in new cameras. As JVC did not do that (...) "

How do you know that!? Do you work for apple?? If so, please, dear sir, know that I'm very upset my IPOD Video has no Firewire connection! :)

I'm very skeptical about this... SDX800 owners are still waiting for the PCMIA compatibility of the P2 cards in Macs, and the sdx is available for at least 6 months! What does this mean? 1080i editing and no variable frame rates or 50P for the time being...

I am too, but I'm sure you appreciate the small form-factor of the iPod - something that wouldn't exist if it still had a built-in FireWire connection. :)
