Hello,

I am looking at purchasing a new camera soon.

I saw a new in box HVX205a on ebay. What is the difference? I could not find any and wanted to know if anyone owns a 205a and can tell me about it.
Thanks,

Lorne Golman

If I am not mistaken the 205 is the version of the HVX meant for the market in Japan. Which means any warranty work would need to be done in Japan making you responsible for shipping it there and back if you need work done as well as dealing with a service center on another continent. The U.S. market model is the 200/200A.

BHPhotoVideo.com

BHPhotoVideo.com has an AG-HVX205a (AGHVX200APJ) in their used section listed as new and factory sealed. I purchased one the other day, received it Tuesday, and I'm happy as a clam so far. Can't beat $3,800 plus the cozy feeling of purchasing from B&H rather than some shady ebay or google-shopping-results-dealer-ive-never-heard-of.

It is an imported Japanese NTSC model. No P2 card or HVX book. Manual was in Japanese but I printed the English pdf. Panasonic warranty is supposed to work but you have to ship it back to Japan. B&H give you a 90 day warranty plus the option of a 2-year for just over $100.

Let me know if you have any questions. I'm a somewhat-well-read beginner.

BHPhotoVideo.com has an AG-HVX205a (AGHVX200APJ)

I have been buying from B&H for 16 years and can vouch for their reliability. As for the part number, the AG-HVX200APJ is actually Panny's US part number for the US model HXV200A. I believe the online info was shown only for comparison purposes. B&H does indicate below that the unit is in fact the HVX205 import model.

I bought a Sony PD DSR 150 ON eBAY.....1900 in 2005 Last year was in for a cleaning for the second time. I bought a DVX 100 on Ebay two years ago so far no problems.

My experience with B&H the best but better know what you want.

Bought my HVX 200A 2007 from a local dealer paid a tad higher but I can bring it in anytime and the service me and the cost is very small. One thing has gone wrong. The earphone shorted out. Cinequipt had it done the next day.

sorry about the bump - had another question about the 205A

anyone else know if it also shoots on mini-DV as well as P2 like the 200 does?

thanks!

yes...it is exactly the same as the 200A but will not include the 16GB P2 card, will not include Barry's HVX and HPX book, and will not include a USA Panasonic warranty. You may find a dealer offering USA warranty, but you will have to send it to them and they may in turn send it to Japan for repair or replace it with a refurbished unit from their stock. I also believe it will have Japanese menu items but can be toggled to English via menu setting.

I purchased the HVX205A after doing my homework. I purchased it through someone on ebay with 30hrs of use. It was fully tested last night, sound check, P2 cards, menu, lens, etc. I cannot find a problem (knocking wood).
However, it is true that the insurance is from Japan but you could probably search for a local company who does repairs. This camera came with a 4 year warranty from CPS (Consumer Priority Service) which the seller paid $650.00 for.
Total cost of this camera was $2800 versus $5,000 that ProVideo was trying to get from me.

Cheers,

We've owned ours for almost a year, bought from B & H. We even got the extended warranties, so now we only deal with them. Great buy
