HVX200a Settings Advice?

I am curious what settings forum members would suggest for my HVX200a... I shoot mostly desert racing (fast action) and the footage is going to be used for broadcast on a national cable series. Footage needs to be "HD" and I am trying to dial it in with some general concerns between 1080i / 60i/30p versus 720p / 60p/30p.

Getting that "film look" isn't a big issue with me and my NLE is powerful enough to handle either.

My other question is related to the difference between 720p/30p and 720p/30pn. I love the advantage of the increased recording time shooting PN but I'm not sure if there is any increased issues with fast moving subject matter, between 30p /30pn.

Any thoughts or advice would be greatly appreciated.

What are the delivery specs for the National Cable Show? Figure those out and shoot to fulfill the needs.

That is what I would do first, just to make sure the footage matches with their other stuff.

In terms of "the best" format, it all depends on what you need to do. The true sweet spot of the camera is the 720p settings. 720p/60p will give you the best (smoothest) motion reproduction. 720/30p is semi "film like" because it is farily close to 720/24p/N, so it will have different motion reproduction (closer to "film look" than 60). 24 is the slowest- which will give it slower motion reproduction.

In terms of the difference between 720/30p and 720/30pN, 720/30p is put back over 60 and 720/30pN leaves it as 30. The only thing this does is save space. It should not affect the quality of the recording at all, most NLE's know exactlu how to handle it.

720p/60p will give you the best motion, but will teke up more space. If you decide to go with 720/30p, 720/30pN will require less space and should not affect quality.

Thanks DJJD566, that pretty much answers my question. If the quality is not hugely downgraded from 720p/60p/30p, then the value of having double the recording time in 30pn is enough to seal the deal.

I don't think it is a huge issue which format (1081i vs 720p) we send to the network. We are not sending them raw footage but we are providing a completely edited show (in house) that they are merely going to brand with their in's and outs.
