HVX200A Remote Control

I'm wondering why my remote control does not provide a consistent, smooth zoom. I have changed the batteries in the remote, but sometimes when zooming, it stops for half a second before continuing the zoom movement. Sometimes, it even stops working completely and after I power the camera on/off, it usually starts working again.

I'm almost wondering if there could be an issue with camera's infrared sensor?

Okay, what can I get that is going to work better than the IR controller?

I use a Varizoom Iris/Focus/Zoom controller. While not perfect, the zooming is very smooth. I usually cut the clip just beyond the beginning of a zoom to eliminate the slight sudden start.
