When im offloading my footage to my laptop(windows) it says .mxf files from the p2 cards. While someone i knows(could be because hes using a mac) footage is labled dvcpro 720, and also when i put my .mxf video clips in after effects, theres no audio what so ever? help please.

I'm not sure what you're using to offload but I generally copy the entire contents of the p2 card to my hard drive (at the highest level you should see a contents folder and a lastclip.txt file). Then I just drag the file I want from the video sub-directory into premiere or after effects. If the video was shot in a frame rate that supports audio, then the audio should come right across into the application.

yeah i do the same thing as you, and im shooting at 720/60p.

After Effects does not playback audio unless you render first and do a RAM Preview, or you can press the period key on the numeric keypad to playback audio only.

yeah but what im saying is when i drag and drop my .mxf video files to after effects there is no audio what so ever.

That's because there's no audio in the video MXF files. You aren't supposed to drag and drop MXF files. You're supposed to import them via the Media Browser.

Hmmm. I drag and drop .mxf files into adobe apps all the time and they normally "figure it out". Here is what I just discovered however, I can still drag and drop into Premiere just like I always have, but I also lose the audio like the OP did in after effect cs6 (works fine for me in cs5.5).
