HVX200A HVX200T What is the difference between A and T

I just found out I have the T and not the A. Is there a difference? I'm kinda worried after a google search shows 10 times the number of hits with the A model than the T model and no decent reliable information of the difference between the two.

T means it's the model made for the Japanese market.

200P = USA
200T = Japan
200E = Europe

200AP = 200A for USA
200AT = 200A for Japan
200AE = 200A for Europe, etc.

The difference between 200 and 200A is in the imaging chips; the 200A is half a stop faster, with much less noise, better color reproduction, and reduced smear.

Why would they come out with a slightly inferior model for another market? That kinda pisses me off they would do that, there's so little information on the net about it and when I purchased my camera nothing that indicated it was the Japanese version.

They didn't come out with anything inferior. They introduced the 200 worldwide, and then two years later they updated it to be the 200A, worldwide.

All regions and territories had the original model, and then later they got the updated model.

And if you bought a 200T, you probably tried to "save some money" by going gray-market, right? Well, this is the kind of thing that happens.

I did buy it off Ebay through a company with a 4 year warranty. It came with extra stuff so not sure that I actually saved that much money. Good to know though, thanks for the info Barry.

anyway to upgrade a P to an A without buying a new camera or is the price of that like buying a new camera? just curious.

Barry what are your thoughts on the AG-HVX205A in respect to the performance of the AG-HVX200T and AG-HVX200A?

It's exactly the same as the 200A, but it's the Japanese model so if you buy it in the US you won't have any warranty coverage, you won't get a free 16GB P2 card, and you won't get the free copy of The HVX & HPX Book in the box.

So there is no difference between the imaging chips? The 205A is not a half a stop slower than the 200A or anything like that?

thanks Barry! i'm pretty happy with my original model actually. i was worried at first with the grain but after tweaking the detail levels in camera, it diminished a LOT of the grain issues. of course it does make things a bit softer but to me it still looks pretty darn nice!
