hvx200a and 200 codec

I know the new hvx and the other new camera will have 1080p, my question is, is Panasonic planning on putting out a codic update for the 200 to allow 1080p?

but it puts a fake interlacing on it, so once the codic compresses it, its no longer 1080p its 1080i so Im wondering if they will have an update that will allow us to have 1080p dvcpro hd

It's true/real/proper 24p, it's just carried within the interlaced signal. There's no 'fake' to be had.

EDIT: If they could find a way to do 1080pn straight to camera, I'd be impressed (I'm too poor/cheap for more P2 cards).

TMNT is exactly right.
There is nothing 'fake' about the 1080p signal of the HVX.
It simply adds a pulldown (when shooting at 24fps) to carry the progressive signal in an interlaced stream.
It works exactly the same way the progressive signal works in the DVX to give us 24fps in an interlaced 29.97 signal.
 
Yes, it supports 1080pAdvanced, but not 1080pNative. If it did, the space savings wouldn't be as big as they are for the 720p format, anyway. Only 20% of the data is redundant.
 
Is there any difference if you throw that on a 1080P or 1080i timeline in Premiere?

There is a preset for 1080i and I always used that because it comes in a interlaced stream. (I live in PAL land and use the 25P over 50i setting on the HVX).

all I know is with my hvx I shooting in 1080i 24p and 24pa I have to run a pull down and a deinterlace in shake. the pull down doesnt make the clip to heavy but the deinterlace really bulks it up so I'm wondering if they are going to ever come out with an update for the hvx not the hvx-a to not add the interlacing to the frames. from what I understand the hvx-a interlacing isn't even an option. which would be great if they would package that as an update for the hvx

Someone was asking about adding 1080 native today, and I kinda heard Jan's response... Basically the codec doesn't support it and it would require re-working the whole codec in order to allow for that. The codec is 10 years old. There wouldnt' be much point in them doing that really. That's where AVC Intra comes in.

Jason M I wonder if your workflow's not quiet right. You should only have to remove pulldown, definitely not have to then add a deinterlace filter which might be making your footage dodgy. Note you may not see the effects of the pulldown removal until you actually render it out.
 
will AVC Intra be made into an update for the hvx? as long as the hardwar isn't to different which it shouldn't be, it should be pretty simple to install it as an update

It's much more computationally intensive than DVCProHD, I doubt that the ASICs/DSPs in the HVX can be reprogrammed to handle AVC Intra.
 
I cannot see them putting AVC-I into the HVX (or any other prosumer camera). At NAB they are touting it as their new "Master Quality" acquisition codec, 10 bit, full raster 1920, etc...

And so far doesn't just the 2700, 3000, and 3700 have it?

You shouldn't have to deinterlace anything if you're shooting 24pa.
Simply removing the pulldown will give you a native 23.976 fps file.

(just saw that TMNT mentioned the same thing above)
 
I import the files into fcu, then I take that .mov into shake where I do the 30 to 24 pull down, there there is interlacing, so you have to deinterlace it 24 in top 24 out, then set alpha to 0 before its workable. all a pull down does is take it from 30 to 24 it doesnt effect the interlacing, so I'm not sure what you all are talking about.

When one edits in Premiere cs3, is there a"remove pulldown step" before you edit? There was a post awhile back concerning a pink line a the top of the frame every four frames...right where you would expect the extra interlaced frame that should get dropped (to create 24p) would be. I see that pink line all the time...Am I skipping a step by just importing my 1080 24pa and editing straight away?
