HVX200 zoom noise

Well, for what it's worth, I got a call from my dealer today telling me my camera is back, but it's not my camera. It appears they have given me a new one with new serial number and everything. I'm going to pick it up in a few minutes. *Shrug* Take this for what it's worth, I don't know if I had a lemon my first time out or if it's more of a global problem. If anyone is concerned I'd call their dealer. It took exactly seven days for the turnaround ( I dropped off my camera last Friday and Panasonic received it on Monday and now it's back at the shop on Friday). Hope this helps someone.

Uh, can someone tell me where to find the serial # on my HVX? I'm looking and don't see one. The manual doesn't seem to mention one either, unless I'm missing something (which is entirely possible!).

More zoom noise

More zoom noise

Does anyone have anymore information about this?

I just got my camera today and the zoom noise is so loud audio is not usable. Same thing I've read in other posts. When zooming slowlly, no noise, when zoom quickly the servo sounds like it is struggling. I'm headed to where I bought it in morning. I can't stand situations like this. I really don't want it fixed I just want another new camera. We'll see what happens.

I just got a PAL HVX200E and experiencing the same problem,

PLUS:

there is another strange, permanent and way too loud operation noise too, which, I think, will make any camera mountable audio solution obsolete.

I dont know if its just my unit, so i called Panasonic here in Germany. They are not aware of anything like that, and turned my to my seller, quite disappointing. The dealer is offering to replace it with another unit, But i am very sceptical now.

On these boards the discussions seems to fade out the small real world handling issues.

Anyone can comment on or is experiencing the same operation noise issue of the HVX200?

Thanks!

I too have noticed that my zoom is extremely loud when going in or out at full speed. It does pick up on my internal mic and unfortunately, it picks up on my external mic even when it's on a shock mount attached to the hot shoe another 1.5 inches away. It is a concern of mine and I will be contacting Panasonic about the issue. Oh, I have serial Bxxxxxx.

Mine is a Cxxxxx.

I just got back from a Panasonic authorized service center in Santa Monica. The guy said it was loud but he didn't think that unusual for the lens. However he admited he didn't have another camera to compare it too. He said he would replace the whole front lens for me, however Panasonic is not allowing any service centers to work on HVX's right now, only Panasonic directly. He said he doesn't even have any parts or the software to diagnose the camera. I fortunately rarely use the the automatic zoom, however I don't like the idea of having a new camera that already needs repair.

FINALLY... I was waiting for others to notice. I starting posting about this a few weeks ago, and nobody really had anything to add. Sent mine back to EVS and exchanged it with another that was just as loud. The Panasonic tech could hear the zoom OVER THE PHONE! Just settled with the 2nd one -- seems like it is just going to be this way for good. Makes the onboard mic useless (not that I ever use it anyway -- especially with a fast zoom) Anyone else notice the focus servo struggling as well? Turn on manual in a quiet room, then switch it to auto and listen.

VERY disappointing. My DVX100a is silent as heck compared to this one.

Yeah my DVX didn't make a noise either.

I wonder if they used the same motor in the HVX but because of the larger lens and focal length the motor is struggling?

Curious, can anyone hear their motor moving when you move the zoom rocker but have the camera switched to manual zoom mode? I saw a DVX front lens assemble with the motor attached at the service dealer. It seems the manual/auto zoom switch only slides a gear out of place to allow the zoom ring to move freely.

My friend has 2 HVX's and both of them are loud. I shot some footage today and the zoom noise gets picked up by the internal zoom.

The way I shoot handheld, I like to use the auto zoom with my right hand and manual focus with left. I'm sure a lot of you do the same thing. I hope Panasonic can help with this issue because I really love my HVX.

Hmmm...pretty much the same thing here. I'm picking up another P2 card today and if the dealer has another HVX in stock will try to test another camera to try and establish if this is "normal."

GlassSidewalk,

There is a Panasonic Facility pretty close to you in Burbank on Cahuenga Blvd West. Why not take it there and they can evaluate it for you.

Thanks,

Jan
