HVX200 Wiki

Hi everyone,

First of all, I'd just like to say 'thank you' to Barry, Jarred, and all the other geniuses out there who help out everyone.

That being said, I think I've repeatedly seen you guys answer the same questions over and over again, maybe it's time someone organizes a HVX (and even DVX) Wiki. It could have a lot of uses, an encyclopedia of the HVX of sorts. It could have a repository of devices tested to work with the HVX, a complete feature list (with detailed explanations of each), technical mumbo-jumbo that your average user won't ever need, trips and tricks, a list of stuff shot on the HVX, etc. etc. etc.

What does everyone think out there?

P.S. I'm not suggesting that it be hosted here, even though that'd be awesome. I'm sure you guys have your hands full, just thought I'd bring up the idea to see what everyone else thought.

looks like an interesting site. seems like it uses MediaWiki software, which I believe is the best there is, but I'm not a wiki expert, so not too sure about that.

While we're at it, anybody feel like brainstorming possible information that this wiki could contain? here's a start:

-hvx200 specs with links from all those specs to articles detailing the technology behind it.
-screenshots included in the explanations.
-list of stuff shot with the HVX
-accessories list for HVX with reviews (somehow, not sure if wiki can do reviews)
-demonstrations of settings of the HVX, with screenshots about how it changes the resulting image.
-list of DIY modifications for use with HVX
-tips and tricks

ok, I'll shut up now.....anyone got any other ideas?

Yeah, many how-to's would be great too.

Wikicities uses MediaWiki, which is indeed the most popular wiki softare around (it's the same also used by wikipedia). The guys behind wikicities also started the wikipedia, so I guess a wiki there would stay around for quite some time. It's free but ad-based - anybody against this?

There is another question about the scope of this new wiki: should it only be about the hvx, about panasonic cameras, or about general independent filmmaking cinematography (my favorite :-D)?

I would ratter have a DVXuser.com control wiki, like wiki.dvxuser.com or hvxuser.com. But yes a Wiki would be extreamly helpfull. I have setup a few of them for different Open Source project I work on and it help reduice repetitive question.

hmm....not as much interest in this idea as I thought!

yeah, a general indie filmmaker's wiki would be cool too....It's hard to decide where to stop with it. I'd say try to specialize, limit it to the HVX at first, then as it matures, let it go where it wants to go.

since there wasn't a response from any of the admins or moderators, it doesn't look like it'll be hosted here......any takers?

I think the right scope would be "indie DPs": broad enough to grow, narrow enough to encourage collaboration.

How about if we just go ahead and start at indiedp.wikicities.com, we can always move back to the hvxuser domain...

Why don't you just start a new entry at wikipedia like there is for the dvx?

The wikipedia is more encyclopedia-oriented, and specs, how-to's, demos, tips&tricks etc. don't fit in there; other editors would just remove it again. A specific wiki would do the job very well though, imho.
