So, I was recently asked by a friend who is making a short film which camera would be best suited for cinematic quality look. Ceteris Paribus, which camera would be his best choice for a WWII short comedy? He was going with the JVC HD100, but was considering the HD200. I told him maybe the HVX200 was the better choice, as it was much more popular for short films/ indie features in comparison with the two JVC cameras. Does anyone have any specific advice that I can relay on to my friend bout the pros/cons o the JVC cameras and how the HVX compares?

Thank you for helping!

the jvc cameras are HDV the panasonic is dvcproHD. if there is going to be a lot of fast motion or camera moves, its been my experience that dvcproHD gives better results.

ive also found that dvcproHD is easier to work with in general.

i wouldnt touch HDV with a 10 foot pole!

i thought thats what i just covered?

there is a ton of ongoing debate over actual camera res vs. shutter/codec issues vs. color sampling vs. ... a lot of it comes down to personal taste and what kind of work you do. best advice you'll get is do a forum search. as its ALL been covered here ad nauseum

i worked with HDV about 18 months ago and i experienced all the typical motion artifacts and judders and workflow hassle. as soon as i got my demo dvd with dvcproHD footage from the hvx - it was such a joy to work with i never gave hdv another thought - and wont if i can help it ; )
