Because I'm new on this forum, first of all: hello!

Until now I'm more specialised in the creative side of my projects than the technical side, so I could use some advice.

I'm looking for a camera, especially to use for documentairies, so I was thinking about the DVX 100A (or is it AE, is there a difference?) or HVX200. I'm going to Tokyo in Novembre so actually I would like to take one of these camera's with me, but of course the HVX200 is not released here in Europe.

1. Should I buy the DVX100A, which is also a little cheaper or should I wait for the release of the HVX200, which quality might be so much better that it is worth waiting for and is worth the difference in price?

2. What might help me decide:

A. DVX100A > shoots on miniDV, but I've read on many sites it's often used for documentairies/(short) independent movies/etc. Is this camera good enough for 'independent documentairies' and broadcasting on tv?

B. HVX200 > Is it only possible to shoot on the expensive P2 cards and Firestore? Or is it also possible to shoot on cheaper media, for times when the highest quality isn't neccesary?

The expensive P2 cards might be a reason not to buy it at this moment, but to start with the more affordable DVX100 and switch to P2 when the prices are more reasonable. But than again: Would I be a fool not to wait a little longer and buy the HVX200?

Is there anybody who might be able to help me out with my desicion? Thanks.

Just check out the established HVX info and you'll find the answers to those questions. In the meantime- the HVX can record to miniDV if you don't want to use P2 (or you can't yet afford it). From everything I've read, it has all the features of the DVX (including miniDV recording), with a touch of seasoning, oregeno, salt and some major kick-ass added. It's like the varicam swallowed up the DVX and then took on some of its characteristics.

DVX100A vs HVX200

I placed this topic in the HVX200 section as well, but thought it could be useful to place it in the DVX100 section as well. Until now I'm more specialised in the creative side of my projects than the technical side, so I could use some advice.

Or the DVX swallowed up the Varicam. Or...the HVX is like the illegitimate son of the DVX and Varicam.
