HVX200 stops zooming?! This will definitely stump you...

I am having such a strange problem. I was using my HVX for 2 hours yesterday on 4th of
July. For the first hour, the zoom worked perfectly. Then, for no reason, the zoom started to get "sticky".... it would respond to my zooms smoothly, and then maybe the 4th or 5th time I would try to zoom, I would get no response. If I give the zoom ring a little PUSH with my finger, it starts to work again for a few seconds.

Look at this video I shot and you'll see exactly what I mean:

Thanks in advance if anyone knows how to fix this!!

Thanks
Conrad

I had similar problems with my zoom and had to send mine to panny....they returned it after 1 week with a brandnew lens!! I do not think there is anything you can do yourself. Usually if dust enters you have to send it to them.

Ouch! Was the repair covered under warranty? How long is the warranty period from the date of purchase?

Yes it was under warranty and since here in europe its 5 years if bought from an official pro broadcast dealer and since my case was after 4 months it was fully covered. They sent a parcel, I placed the cam inside and it was picked up. excellent warranty service!

I have the hvx since less than 2 years now and feel confident about the extra warranty!

Does anyone here in the states have insight towards this problem? I read online that my Panasonic warranty is only 1 year. Unfortunately, I purchased the camera 2 years ago from B&H.

Is the 1 year warranty in the states true? Does anyone know of a great Panasonic support center on the East Coast who will have the parts necessary to replace the lens?

I'll probably end up driving about an hour North to Spec-Comm to have the camera repaired. They seem to have a lot of experience with Panny cameras. However, they charge $85/hour for repairs. I'm still shocked that I'm having this camera with the amount of infrequent use this camera gets. Is it a lost cause for me to try to attempt Panasonic for a warranty (or cheaper) repair? Thanks,

I think Panasonic cameras are pretty good quality and that's why I keep buying them. I had to replace a lens because of damage I caused and had to pay $1,700 (accidential damage not covered by warranty). Once the new lens was installed it worked great. However, I had to send it back to Panasonic a second time for a different minor problem and the technician thought the zoom motor which is a part of the new lens assembly was a little loud and replaced it again but for free.
