HVX200 setup please help.

I am using an HVX200 at work (for personal stuff I use a XHA1, 5D, and 7D). I am in desperate need of set up help. I lit a scene with a girl with black hair and i tested it using all three cameras: HVX, A1, and 5D all running in video mode of course. The HVX is crushing the blacks, getting rid of detail, and putting noise in there when I get great details in the darks with the A1 and 5D.

Any help for set up on the HVX would be greatly appreciated.

you'll probably mainly want to look at your gamma curves and your master pedestal.

The further into the negatives that master ped is will crush the blacks. If you want to see into the blacks more, then bump your master ped up.

Noise... hvx is a bit noiser of a camera (the original hvx)... cine d is going to be your noisiest of the gammas. I like cine V a lot myself with proper settings. A lot of people seem to like bpress for getting cleaner footage.

I would also recommend shooting in 1080 if you aren't already... Footage just looks a lot better in 1080 on teh hvx to me when it comes to "cleanness" than it does in 720... not necessarily b/c it's that much sharper or anything... just looks better.

Keep in mind (while you can do it in post instead if you prefer) crushing the blacks down some is going to help to mask some of the noise.

later,
Jason
