Hiy all
I did a no-budget shoot for a friend the other day and came up with an issue while testing pre shoot - saturated reds in scene were breaking up terribly - badly pixelated
The shoot was kept in SD for Youtube use only, and for ease of editing by students using their pcs.
Anyway, it wasn't too bad on the shoot, which was for a student music rehearsal, but it had me worried as the violins have strong red colours and pixelation of reds can be seen in footage.
Question: I was wondering if this is a feature of shooting SD with hvx re strong reds in scene pixelating?
As I've never had problems when shooting in HD settings which I normally do, I can't see why SD setting would be so bad with reds.
Note re shoot and settings:
I was shooting in a typical old classroom with poor flourescent tube lighting, and I brought my own CFL lights, also used some led lighting - an improvised thing.
The settings I chose were DVCpro50 24pA with squeeze at 0%, gamma High, matrix Fluo, master ped set to -10 (as I needed to crush those shadows), fairly sure the shutter speed was 24th but maybe had to go down to 12th re flicker, gain 0, ND 0
Stock Hvx200, pulling focus madly to create some cinelike dof effects
Shot on P2, pulldown removed in FCP, exported with custom aspect ratio
There's a very rough cut on Youtube for sharing with others involved in the editing
