h.264 is inside the free, opensource MPlayer or QT7, which only needs a 400MHz G3 on the mac side - not too bad. I see your point, but h264 scales pretty well, even cellphones can play low bandwith streams. Plus the audience here probably runs some editing suite and have pretty recent computers (like, less than 4 years old), no?

I'll have to look into Mplayer. QT7 tells me to update my OSX, which I am very relunctant to do - I try and stick to "If it ain't broke, don't fix" rule as far as possible.

I have been using VLC player, but the latest version went mad and corrupted all the old versions too! The old one was working fine - that's what happens when you ignore THE RULE!

There's no link to dl the footage....

Once you install the Flash Player (which takes about 30 sec) it will just appear on the page and play. Works very nicely. :cheesy:

Took me a minute to figure it out.

I sure wish he would have sat in the front row. It's hard to read a lot of the slides. Maybe Jan can post the files if they're in .ppt

Hey, my PowerBook is still tied up encoding the movies (I was doing a H.264 for QT 7 and a mp4 for QT6.5). I'm going to have to abort so I can run to work, but I'm going to bring my drive into work and encode on a co-worker's G5 which I hope will be faster. I've put placeholders for the downloads, but they obviously won't be live until I encode them.

I mentioned this on the first page. ;-)

But no, he's right, you can't *download* the footage. That's why people were asking for a QT file, etc.

Would be nice, but this is all pretty common information. It actually looked very similar to what they went over at NAB 6 months ago. I'm sure Jan is pretty tired of going over the spiel by this point...

Hang in there, Jan! :)

Took me several times, but it finally loaded. On MSFT Explorer on a Wintel machine, I think it helps to go to Tools, Internet Options, then hit Delete Files. That seems to clean a lot of junk out of the system and get programs to finally load.
