After you install Flash 8, the "info" screen automatically loads up the RESFest presentation instead.

Thanks for posting, John... a lot of it is the same information that they've been repeating since NAB, but for those not fortunate enough to live near places where these kinds of things have been happening, I'm sure it's appreciated.

The new flash player looks cool! Kudos.

Not bad. A bit shaky - did you film it from the Titanic? :-)
- Do you have any footage where you have "zoomed in" to the hvx-footage, so that we can estimate the resolution of the cam better (obviously depending whether they had a 1080 beamer)
- swf... can't save it, no fullscreen, no time display, many small playback stutters and a big one that kept safari hung up for 2 minutes, then suddenly continued with the barbershop bar making lots of distracting movement - c'mon, make it a h264! It might be easier on your server, too - cause we could share it. I mean, you work in video production and use such a strange codec? :-)
- Anyway: great stuff, thanks a lot :-)

I could post another as QuickTime (but it would probably be H.264 so you would need QT7 and I don't know how to expose chapter points in QT--anyone know how?). If there's enough interest I'm open to doing it. I choose the new FP8 codec because it is pretty good and I need reasons (and I've been itching to try the new skins in Flash 8) to test the stuff I work on, you know! :-)

Thanks for posting skidgel, it was very kind of you to go through all that hassle for us!!

I thought the codec worked really well, unless you had another application on top. H.264 is still limited in audience - I can't use it until I upgrade my OS.

I bet Jan I can find her another camera that you can parachute with though - that was a really bad example! You can tell she has had to answer some of those questions SOOO many times. I don't envy her!

Thanks for this, by the way, very considerate. I would certainly like a downloadable QuickTime file myself. You wouldn't have to have chapter points in the QT file, just dump the file up there and let us download. ;)

Nice FP8 work, however.

Hi John, yes, a h264 would be really handy. You can edit those chapterpoints in finalcutpro, not sure how to do it without it. Thanks, great stuff :-)

Hey Edelweiss,

I know I can add markers in FCP as chapters (they're already there--I had to re-enter them by hand in the Flash 8 Video Encoder), I just don't know if there's an easy way for the viewer to access them in the final QT file (which is a little easier in flash since there's a control for next/previous). Anyway, I can repost tomorrow morning as an H.264 (although some have asked for something else since they're not on tiger--perhaps sorenson2 or maybe h.263 which I think is the mp4 that was in QT6 or QT6.5) after it's finished recompressing (although now I'm tempted to install Qmaster on my wife's powerbook and have Compressor distribute the encoding of a H.264 and a QT6.5 compatible movie too)!

I commented about the H264, but I have seen the flash version. Just be aware that some people can't view H264 without upgrading the OS, or sometimes their computer! :undecided

an H.264 version at 70% of SD res will play fine on just about any computer out there... SD content doesn't require very much power.. HD is another matter... I get about half the FPS with HD H.264 content..

I think it'd be safe to do a lower res h.264 version

h.264 is inside the free, opensource MPlayer or QT7, which only needs a 400MHz G3 on the mac side - not too bad. I see your point, but h264 scales pretty well, even cellphones can play low bandwith streams. Plus the audience here probably runs some editing suite and have pretty recent computers (like, less than 4 years old), no?

ok.. EVERYONE needs to watch this.

this should clear up alot of the same questions over and over that people seem to ask. im just going to continually link here when somone asks somrethign about the HVX. if anyone doesnt get it after this.. well.. they just dont get it then .. its a little out of the leage they should be playing in.

if anybody wants to download it, I just played back the whole presentation while shooting it with my built-in camera of my cell-phone (sorry, no tripod either) and it's downloadable now as a wmf-file, only 2 MB.. quality is.... a little.... well just download it and see by yourselves!

just joking... ;) - thanks a lot for the footage, skidgel! Many new informations for me (e.g. the storage tapes...)
