HVX200 output format?

Burnin' down the House
I'd be interested in asking this one question of all users: what output do you intend to use in order to distribute your finished product? D5? The P2 cards are a blessing for me, I know some people have had a problem with having no master tapes but wow does this save me from seeing digital noise added or tape skips. However this leaves an interesting delema, what format will you output to? Most people dont even own an HD display to screen the footage on except their computer. Me personally I'm going to capture and edit at 1080i, output to miniDV at 720/480 res and keep a 1080i cut on hard disk in case I get a buyer for the film who wants to do a blow up. What are other people thinking?

I disagree with your name HDkilledFILM. I think film is very alive and well as a matter of fact.

I spoke with him last week and he's so pissed off at you.

You should write him a letter and spray perfume on it.

I have to say that I have been working in the film industry for the past 5 years and I can honestly say that HD did kill the "film" industry. Ask Kodak why they've lost so many jobs. 10,000+

you must be new.

P.S. I owned an aaton minima for 2 years and used it once, on my own project. This as opposed to the 10+ pro projects I worked on using either a dvx100 or a varicam. Not to mention the amount of jobs HD took away from indie shooters who owned super16mm or 35 cameras.

I am aware of new film stocks emerging. However film is not keeping up with HD. If you disagree thats fine but just because R+D at Kodak have a new stock doesn't say anything about their shift into digital. Kodak announced about three years ago now (maybe longer) that they have shiffted their focus into digital capture mediums. Also it is important to note that there is only one real film maker (that is getting away from making film) Kodak, fuji is so far behind it's a joke, where Sony, Arri, Panasonic, Cannon, JVC, and Red Camera are all in development of HD which will be at a consumer level (Please red Cam) cutting into Kodak's film profits further...........

Most of the digital cinema release is original film, and for distribution HD(tv) can exist next to film in the theatre. For digital release products like CineServer is available.

True, for now. Let me ask everyone a few serious questions, how much does a film print cost? How much has film cost for the past 100+ years? Will that cost ever go down? No, because the format is never changing. Will the cost of HD lower with new technology? Yes, Because compression rates as well as storage capacity and rasing resolutions of both Digital projectors and capture formats. I love film more than anyone but I am also a realist.
