HVX200 OIS and Ebay

Hi,

I currently sold an HVX200 over Ebay about a month ago. Recently the buyer emailed me saying the camera is broken blaming the Optical Image Stabilizer. I have read a few threads about using the OIS while on a tripod or steady shot, so I believe that might be it, but I cannot tell b/c she hasn't been easy to get any information out of.... I also thoroughly checked the camera, the P2 slots, the footage, etc. before I posted it on Ebay and I know the camera was working perfectly before I sold it or else I wouldn't have done it.

Anyways, my question is what is the reliability of the OIS? And if there is any other info about the OIS that would be helpful.

Here is what she said:

"I bought the HVX from you last month and just finally got to use it for a shoot. After running it for a short while we realized that the optical image stabilizer is malfunctioning and causing the actual image to shake. This was not an issue you had mentioned in the listing. Could you please advise what we can do?"

tell them not to use it when on a tripod or other stabilization device. Sounds like the problem.

Human error. Not the camera.

If you have it on a tripod and are panning with OIS on, you will get jitters. Tripod is the stabilization device. no need for it in camera as well in those instances. just two things fighting against each other basically.

Yea,

I saw other posts to with people who complain about the same problem. I let her know but she hasn't very willing to get down to the bottom of the problem. She just wants a speedy return.

Have you heard of OIS ever breaking? Is it reliable?

Thanks..

i haven't personally heard of any instances.

From what you've said, it sounds like human error and it's not really your problem. tell 'em to READ :)

rule #1 is that you don't use OIS when using a tripod. It doesn't even make sense to do so. If she's using OIS on a tripod or other stabilization device, then that is her fault and she shouldn't be complaining about the camera. Use it properly and they won't have the problem. Use it in a manner you aren't supposed to doesn't make it broken :)
