HVX200, No Audio input in P2 mode

Hi there. I'm at my witts end here trying to figure this out. I hope you can.

I was filming with my friends HVX200 on Friday and I plugged in firewire from the camera into my PC without turning the camera off and put it in comp mode. That was not smart and I think that's what caused this... It did not recognize any output. We believed the reason was that the camera itself does not let 720p pass through a firewire cable.

Anyway, I put the camera back in P2 mode when we decided just to use the cards instead of the external hardrive attached to my computer. I was shocked when I was not getting ANY audio input. Not from the XLR inputs, and not from the internal microphone. Nothing was working. After about 25 minutes the audio did turn back on. We filled the P2 cards up and were ready for the transfer. I was a little hesitant to transfer the cards because of what previously happened. But we decided to so we could keep filming.

Well, it did happen again. The P2 audio is not working, but the TAPE audio is working perfectly.

Does anyone know why it is not letting any P2 audio go through? We did start and restart the camera several times.

Thanks so much!

Thunderbird.

It is very possible if you are using 720pn, you could very easily be recording with variable frame rates. Are you by chance trying to record 720 30pn and are on either Cine D or Cine V? If so, this will by default set your frame rate to record at 24fps rather than 30. If you are using variable frame rates you will not get sound. I would check that, as it seems to be the likely culprit.

Cheers,
Ryan

Ummm... where do you get this? Not the case for my camera, and not the way it should be. Are you sure you're not referring to default scene files rather than gamma curves?

Anyway, it does sound like the issue is a frame-rate issue. If your frame rate setting is not "DEFAULT", you won't get audio.
