hvx200 laptop streaming

I might try to stream some footage through the laptop onto an external firewire hard drive.

Does anyone know what settings the camera needs to be set to?
Is the camera able to stream footage in all formats, or just non native ones?

I don't believe it can stream to usb, but I do believe it can to firewire, but correct me if I am wrong.

I plan to by a half a terrabyte drive today if it can stream through a laptop via firewire to the drive. Now that I think of it, would I need a firewire hub to do this, and can I connect the drive to the laptop via usb, and the camcorder via firewire?

How do you tell the camera where you want the footage to go?

The more I think about it, the more I am starting to think you can't do this, as the camera does not know where you are trying to put the footage.

Test shhot in 2 hours. If I can't figure this out, I may have to shoot it on tape. No one to transfer the 8 gig card data, while I am doing stills.

I'm using a G-Tech G-RAID that's half a TB, but it requires firewire 800 to run 50 Megs a second.

What kind of laptop are you using? Mac or PC?

I'd like to hear the outcome of your PC test! It might justify updating my 7 year old laptop.

I am using an inexpensive gateway laptop 1.4 gig I believe (pc).
I will try to use the usb hookup if possible, as I only have one firewire port.
My deadline is near, and no suggestions offered, so I ,may try this another day.
