Can anyone tell me how to transfer 720p/24pn footage from my p2 to my computer(macbook pro) or hard drive??

Go into "other option" in the menu and set to usb or firewire. plug it into your mac with usb or fire wire. Hit the button on the back to switch into vtr mode. Hold that button down until it goes into pcdub mode. It should mount just like a flash drive.

Check that your cable and your firewire port are working. Blown firewire ports are a common occurrence, especially when working with Macs. Macs have 6-pin firewire ports that output power signals, and if someone connects the cable to the camera first, and then tries to plug into the Mac, there's a chance that a brief misalignment of the cable will cause a power surge to leap down the cable and blow up the camera's firewire port.
When using a Mac the only acceptable foolproof workflow is to disconnect the cable from the camera, plug the cable into the computer first, and then plug into the camera.

Admittedly, I'm a complete newbie. After watching a log and transfer tutorial on youtube, I tried it for myself. I read the manual, and it just mentions to make sure to turn on the mac before connecting the firewire, without making note of turning the camera on, only after you've connected the cable.
So, mistakenly, the first time I tried this, I connected the cables with the macbook and the hvx on. Since, I've tried it again with it off, first, as well as connecting it to an imac. Both result in 1394 device disconnect. I'm dreading now that I've blown the port. I don't have any other devices that I could try to connect with the firewire, but maybe you could help my in the process of discovering whether my port is blown.

I'm in a community where I don't exactly have the means of being able to find a class on how to use and set up the hvx, so I'm entirely self taught in this type of situations. I've taught myself how to use all my editing programs, but there is really a lack of teaching information on the hvx. Luckily, I've stumbled across this website.
