HVX200 hardware upgradable?

I've been mired in post for the past year with little opportunity to shoot footage. Are there any upgrades that can be made to the HVX200 in regards to supporting other codecs such as ProRes (aside from purchasing an AJA KiPro)? Is it possible to order the internal components from a 200A to swap into the 200?

Heh? Why would you want to? Sell your hvx200 for $2500 and buy a used 200A for $3500. Problem solved, or buy a used 170 if you don't need tape.

The purchase would be via the company I work for. Their policy is to not sell equipment when it's old, but to give it away to charity, so that's why I can't sell the 200 to fund an upgrade to a 200A.

The CineDeckHD looks awesome, but the cost is higher than I'm looking for now, and I'd be more inclined to go that route if I were using a camera with a larger sensor, for the DOF monitoring. I'm considering the KiPro, since it could also be used in the studio to meet some other needs that I have. So, if I were to record to a KiPro from the HVX, what is gained by bypassing the in-camera DVCPROHD compression chip? Obviously I'd gain full resolution, would I also get boosted from 8-bit to 10-bit? What about the level of noise, and low light sensitivity? Would either of those be improved?

Oh, also, are there any wearable rigs to keep the KiPro strapped to the body for run-and-gun?

8 bit

8 bit

The camera is 8 bit and you won't gain anything from recording 10 bit. Do tests to see if it's worth it: DVCPRo HD is still a good compressed format. If you record an HPX171 to a Macpro via HD SDI you do get full raster and may use e.g. Prores, but it's more disc space and in many situations more noise, too, that has been otherwise filtered away in the camera during the encoding to DVCPRO.
Jan had a post on this some time ago, haven't bothered to do it myself even though I could. I like DVCPRO HD when properly lit and exposed, that's the key.
