HVX200 Good enough for History Channel?

I guess these cable channels know their market. I never thought "Big Brother" or "Survivor" would last as long as they have. Essentially they are "Reality Soaps." Except for "Deadliest Catch" which is a great show most of the others don't hold my attention. I used to love "Myth Busters" but now it seems as though all they want to do is blow everything up. "Ax Men" in my opinion is a bore with 20 minutes of falling trees. Dangerous? Yes. Exciting? No. But the reality is that my opinion is one out of millions and I guess Discovery has proven that enough people like "Ax Men." So, to hell with my opinion. Of course, if I was Thom Beers and making millions, I would probably love the show too. All you can do is hope more people and enough people like your show as opposed to not liking and not watching your show.

We just completed and sent in to Discovery a Sizzle Reel for a show we want to do for Animal Planet. The people are interesting and the animals are dangerous so we are now waiting to see if Discovery agrees. Wait...the people are exploding and the animals are busted. No... ah the people are hot and the animals are cool ... ah...

I actually just helped a company shoot a interview for the history channel a couple weeks ago and that's what they brought was an HVX200 and a couple P2 shoot with So I'm sure its acceptable. As far as the Discovery channel goes I know they shoot some stuff for them and Food network but I don't know if they use the HVX.

I'm pretty sure they use HDV for that. As well as some AVCHD for the stuff that Bear shoots. I've seen quick shots of the cameramen and I never saw an HVX rig.

I know UFO hunters shoots with HVX though.

No they use panasonic ENG (tape based), HVX, and some smaller flash based camcorders.. no HDV.

Suffice to say the HPX170 probably can't be used for these shows due to the flaw of the manual focus mechanism in low temperatures.

Yes Jim, but it is a crass business, right? ;-)

deSelby:

You MUST add the words "Extreme, Busted, Deadliest, Destroyed or Wreck" to any show title to pitch for Discovery. How about, "Extreme Ice Road Trucker Chick Destroys The Deadliest Taliban Jihad to Wreck The Climate"?

What do you think?

Dan

Nope! too complicated.

Or spin it this way ...

Extremely Busted Trucker Chicks Destroy the Deadly Taliban who Wreck the Climate through Jihad

:)

Now were starting to get there... See it would be something like this that they would want... "Extremely Busted Trucker Chicks" ahh...ahh? picture that!

Have you ever seen a female truck driver unloading a full trailer? LOL!!!
Some of them are actually bigger than me!:nads:

I agree: the dumbing down is the hardest part!

I know what you mean! sometimes it even takes effort! :)

And if you make a pilot for the History Channel make sure the name is something similar to:

"How Nostradamus Cracked the Hidden Mystery of the Underground Alien Nazi Sasquatch Secret Da Vinci Code"

Ah, history.

They were used for the 2009 Iditarod.

I would love to read some production notes from that season. Is there a link somewhere? I know Jan said all of the Panasonics' focus rings ceased up in the cold, albeit it was the extremest of low temps.. so makes no difference which cam they used..

Shoot in temps a bit higher(like 40F), where the HVX wouldn't cease up but the HPX would, then you have an obvious choice of which cam to go with...
