HVX200 for 48 Hour Film Festival

I ran a team in Greensboro, NC's 48 Hour Film Festival last years(www.48hourfilm.com) shooting with my DVX100a. 2 other teams also shot with DVX100a (and everybody commented how our stuff looked best project off Beta onto a main screen at our megaplex, including against some Sony and JVC 1/2" interlaced)

Shooting HVX200 with P2 would be fantastic. How about a team "HVX200" for one of the festivals this year. Panny could loan a pre-production unit to a team in our of the cities (Greensboro's in July 22-24th, maybe too soon for a working model) but then are participating cities around the world.

It would be great exposure and testing for the camera and P2 and Mark that runs the festival is a really great guy.

Maybe not workable, but might work out if timing is good.

Nice try. I did the 48hour film festival in 2002 with the OG dvx100.
My guess is they don't have a camera ready for prime time yet. Probably won't till mid July when production ramps up.

This get's my goat. We've been trying to get that fest here in Chicago for some time. What the hell, is it not for the large cities? We never get a response.

Actually we are a 48 Hour sponsor this year and there will be a run off competition in January with the top five teams. Each team will shoot with the HVX200 and the winning team gets an HVX200.

And no we wouldn't put a pre-production unit into a situation that really counted. They are hand built and not very rugged. Prototypes are good for shows and capturing some footage but not the rigors of filmmaking. I mean if it decided to die in the middle of making the film, would that be a good thing? I have seen that happen. I shipped a proto SDX900 to a show, it worked when I put it into the shippng case, it didn't work in Indiana, well actually it turned on then went blank. So no, Protos are not to be trusted for important things.

Best regards,

Jan

It takes a concerted effort by local volunteers to get the festival to your city. Asking won't cut it.

At least a response about what it takes would be nice from their group. We get nothing but ignored. It's OK, we'll get by here without it. I do like the idea.

Hombre... It's been on the list for a couple of years and still no show. I'll try to contact them once again. You know there is a form to fill out to get your team entered. We've sent in the form for the last two years with no response. It's no big deal but a response would have been nice.

later...

Strange - I'm not one of the organizers, but Mark, who runs the festival seems like a pretty nice, accessible guy.

You sure that you got in the right method? The first 10 teams to apply get in, the rest on a lottery, so it generally is the local organizers that notify who gets in and not. We never communicated directly with the national office for entry other than mailing forms in. Our local organizers did all that kind of communication.

I'll check it out again. Our method has always been with the main group. I do know they haven't been to this city. There's never anything about it at Colubia or anywhere else. I'm not sure other than the method that is listed on the web site as the proper method.

As I wrote, it's no big deal. I do like the concept.
