question: begin only able to afford just the camera right know..
will i be able to record 16:9 24p to dv tape??

and will it produce the same image quality as the dv100

thanx

This question has been answered many times before. Next time you should do a search.

Will it be able to record 16x9 24p to tape? Yes, in DV 4:1:1 mode only, exactly like the DVX100.

Will it produce the same image quality as the DVX100? From all accounts so far, in DV mode, yes; in DVCPro50 mode, a lot better then the DVX for sure; in DVCProHD mode, well, man, it's HD, so definitely superior. Of course we can't really give absolute answers until the HVX ships!

From what I saw at Rez fest the S/N raiot was atleast a stop better than the DVX so I would say over all better.

I agree that the S/N ratio of the HVX may be better than the DVX, but what was shown at Resfest in LA was 1080i in a very bright environment not progressive footage at lower levels. I too was impressed with what I saw there, but still want to see the production versions performance.

Keep in mind that interlaced footage will always have a noise advantage over progressive and with very high illumination levels (like was the case outside the theater at Resfest), it is nearly impossible to come to any conclusions about the characteristics at more modest levels.

If the release dates are still accurate, all this speculation over the performance of the HVX will soon come to an end.

If true that the signal to noise ratio is better then the DVX, then it's good news indeed. i would not have expected this from higher density sensors.

thanx everybody for the info...
should be a interesting year next year with all this new gear

Between having higher definition chips, a better signal to noise ratio, and native 16:9, the image should be superior to the DVX, though maybe not so to the untrained eye.
