Hvx200 Can Only Show It's True Colors Wide Open!

The hvx200 will only look it's best wide open due to defraction shooting HD 1080p on such small chips.

That is why the footage always looks better than the charts.
Footage usually is shot to show low light conditions and or shallow depth of field and hence the "wide open" defractionless images.

When shooting charts, the testers are shooting less wide open.

The current test results do not show the glory of what the HVX is capable of doing with a real image shot by someone who understands the limitations of this format, and combined with the current optics.

1080 images from a 1/3 sized chip, can only be captured best at f2.8

We need some more rez tests at various stops, and also showing the rez effect of detail coring at its extremes.

Anyone up for this?

thanks,Steve

I shot the EIA1956 chart at f/2.8, and got somewhere around 700 lines (I might call it 670, Juan Pertierr said he could justify calling it 730).

Jay and I will be retesting his camera for chart performance on the DSC Chroma DuMonde chart at various f-stops and various zoom settings and for min & max coring.

Thanks Barry,
The results will be interesting I'm sure.

I'm sure you posted this, but what was the HVX200 f-stop used for the rez test
during the camera comparison?

Let us not forget that these are VIDEO cameras and NOT still cameras! A test showing equal MOTION under equal conditions might suddenly make the HVX look [somewhat] better.

Not a prediction, just a speculation....and hope? ;-)

5.6, I believe.

Barry (and please forgive me if this information is in the test info) what focal length (s ?) were the tests shot at? Were all cameras set to the same focal length?

Thankyou

All the cameras were about the same distance from the chart, and since they're all 1/3" 16:9 chips you can assume that all were at basically equivalent focal lengths (excepting the 2/3" cameras of course).
