HVX200 best night settings

Hi.

I am shooting late night news stories with my HVX200 and find the footage way too dark and noisy. I know the HVX does not have very good low light, but I'm sure there is a way to set the scene file gamma, chroma, detail, etc to get a better night picture.

Right now I am shooting 720P 30Fps, 12dg gain, shutter at 30sec with factory scene settings.

Any suggestions?

Thanks Kris

Lights lights lights

I don't reckon your going to get a great deal better quality image without lights.

Sure your settings (scene files) may help a bit but adding 12db gain is just going to add even more noise to an already noisy image.
Yeah slowing the shutter speed down 1/25 maybe (but that'll give you motion blur) will help, opening the iris will help, but without lights its just gonna be what it is.

Just my 2 cents

i shot some dj stuff last weekend and used the same settings. it looks good except for the noise. so today im buying the neatvideo noise filter. u should check it out i hear its way worth the $100

I would like to see a before and after (plugin applied) screenshot if you can post one.

it looks good. must have if shooting at night. ill post screens when i get home i recmomend tryn out the demo

Wow that was some great advise!

Open the iris some more, add more lights & turn up the gain......

Wow! I never taught of that.........

Anyone read my original post and have some "useful" advise?

P.S Before every body post more great ideas. I already know that I can just wait till daytime and shoot the scean.

Thanks

Won't bother next time you sarcastic numpty.
If your adding gain and complaining about the noise you obviously haven't read the manual or done any research.
Before getting sarcastic with people on here who are taking time out to help with a few suggestions perhaps you should
a. Read the manual
b. Use that thing called Google, you know that (cough cough) search engine thingy.
c. Do some tests
d. Read some books

If all else fails here's a ball go and bounce it

HAHAHAHAHA! So true, when I got my HVX, I read the Barry Green book like it was some sorta epic novel... I'm still re-reading it and learning even more technical stuff that will help me out alot, even if I don't think I need to know it right away. Thats the bible.... I'm not very informed on all what other books there are on the HVX(maybe lemme know whats out there guys), but this forum has never lead to bad advice. You just have to think about what your problem is, and make sure its something you really need help figuring it out. thats all....

open iris and use led. I did a club scene http://viewmorepics.myspace.com/ind...dID=81092276&albumID=2794195&imageID=46914410
my gaffer guy pulled his hair when i was shooting it. Everyone said it couldint be done. I had smoke machines and lasers and noise was what they were all scared of. My cheap hongkong led lights acually showed otherwise. Everybody was in shock how awesome the hvx200 was in crapy lighting. Here is an outside shot we did also in the night opened iris 1080i 23.976 http://viewmorepics.myspace.com/ind...2794195&imageID=46914410#a=2794195&i=46914416
Neat video is amazing but if ur footage looks bad it might make it worse buy giving it a smudged look. I like it but bareley use it. here is another on a roof top night scene. http://viewmorepics.myspace.com/ind...2794195&imageID=46914410#a=2794195&i=47866620 and a pitfighting scene all in the dark with also cheap lighting http://viewmorepics.myspace.com/ind...2794195&imageID=46914410#a=2794195&i=49390143 also here is a dark returante scene http://viewmorepics.myspace.com/ind...1252025&imageID=52447059#a=1252025&i=51752501
