HVX200 and lenses

Hello!

I have always wondered why Panasonic doesen't have interchangable lenses on the DVX100 and the HVX200?

Thing is, Im going for the HVX200, and what would I need to have in order to attach more lenses? (Im guessing that you have to leave the standard Leica lens in, and use another lens in front of that, correct?)

You can attach a wide-angle or telephoto converter in a matter of a few seconds.

There are many, many reasons that these cameras (and practically all cameras under $8,000) don't have interchangeable lenses. Interchangeable lenses are a pain to work with, requiring constant backfocus adjustment. Interchangeable lenses are expensive too -- look at the optional lens for the JVC HD100, it's $10,000 or so. Lenses can be designed more simply and optimized to the format when you design a built-in lens rather than when you have to make it open to any and all possible lenses or bodies. And making it built-in allows for things like autofocus, which you basically don't find on interchangeable lens cameras.

I'm not saying interchangeable = bad! But I am saying that there are many, many reasons why nearly every camera in this price bracket has a fixed lens.

Martin Munthe, an independent filmmaker back here in Sweden, (he has done second unit work for big budget productions aswell) says that, the ground glass (the fixed lens) is really important and thats why the Canon models have an edge over the Panasonic DVX100 and HVX cameras with thier interchangable lenses. What do you think about that?

What you typed seems contradictory..... He says fixed glass is important and that is why canon has an edge over panasonic?

I think you either mean he thinks interchangable is important and that is why canon has edge over panasonic or you mean fixed lens is important and that is why panasonic has edge over canon.

I agree with Barry and David S.

Add a quality 35mm adapter to your DVX/HVX and you'll have interchangeable lenses. The imagery I've seen looks pretty amazing considering they're 1/3" CCD cameras!
