HVX200 and DVX100B prices?

Hello. Last year my film production company purchased 3 HVX200's and 5 DVX100B's.

We ended up only using 1 HVX and 2 DVX's. So, i am left with 2 HVX' 3 DVX's.

These camera are new in their boxes. Paid somewhere like $5000 each last year. Not sure how much of the warranty is left, but if there was any reason for me to sell these at less that $5000 it would be because the warranty has expired. I do not have p2 cards for the hvx's. Also, does anyone know if the camera comes with a battery in the factory box?

So, what would be a reasonable price for HVX's and DVX's. I was searching around ebay and found that it varied too much. The buy-it-nows seemed too high and weren't selling.

If anyone has any selling price suggestions let me know. Also, whether or not Ebay is a good choice or not. If anyone from DVXuser wanted to buy one from me, and was shaky about the deal, i'd have no problem setting up a buy-it-now page on ebay just for the buyer so they have some added facilitated protection.

Hi Dasonras,

Honestly, you're in a bit of a pinch. You can get a new HVX200 these days for around $4800 (check Pricegrabber.com) from an authorized dealer, and maybe even cheaper from some of the dealers who frequent this site and offer discounts to dvxuser.com members.

To make it worse, Panasonic is offering a free 8 GB P2 card ($1200 value, I believe), plus Barry Green's book ($80, although worth a lot more than that). So that's nearly $1300.

I'm not sure what the story is with the warranty, but I remember that the warranty on the DVX100a stated that it is not transferable. If this is true with the HVX200, then even if there's time left on the warranty, it's worthless. Frankly, to me personally, the warranty is worth at least $500, as even a minor repair on this camera will be expensive.

So, for someone like me, I wouldn't pay more than $3000 for your HVX.

Now, if someone already owns some P2 cards or a Firestore, maybe the free 8 GB card isn't that big a deal. Maybe they're looking for a second camera.

Keeping all this in mind, I do think Ebay can be good if you don't do the "Buy it now" thing. People like to bid, and this is a popular camera, so you may get some competitive bidding. I would even caution against placing a reserve price. I've sold several Macs this way, and have always done well with the selling price. It's a gamble, but not too risky if you ask me.

I don't know how experienced you are with Ebay (I'm new to this forum, so I don't know your post history), but take the standard precautions:

1. Don't accept odd payment arrangements, and avoid anything like Western Union, Bidpay, etc. Even Paypal has its risks, but you can take steps to be safe.

2. Don't ever deal with anyone except through the email address they registered with Ebay.

3. Check your potential bidders' feedback ratings.

I've never had any problems with Ebay, either selling or buying, but I'm also very cautious and methodical. Anything that sounds too good to be true, is.

Finally, I would also suggest craigslist if you want to sell locally and avoid Ebay/ Paypal fees and shipping hassles.

Regarding the DVX, there's no "freebie" up for grabs, so I think the camera will hold its price better.

Having said all of this, I am in the market for a camera. If you feel that what I've said is fair, I may be interested in taking one of your HVXs off your hands.

Good luck!

dasonras,

I am in the Boston/Nantucket area. If you can come up with a fair price, I would meet up with you and trade goods for cash.

Thank you,

Yes, what is a fair price as mentioned. Also, be careful with member with only 1 post and no history. It's crazy how price are going down now.

I understand that I am new to posting on the board. I usually post on dvinfo.net... With this board I mainly lurk as I have nothing of real value to add to the discussions. Lately I have been between the A1 and the HVX-200. The only item I have purchased on any of these boards is Barry's course which I still have yet to attend.

I also have a verified ebay account.

regardless, I prefer to do business such as this in person.

I am not really sure what else I can say...

Thanks again,
Jay Stebbins

New HVX200 $5200 Best price I have seen..
Free 8Gig Card -$1200 This camera comes with none
New Battery -$120 As this camera seems to not come with one, there should be a batt somewhere...

$3880 if it were new

For a price somewhere south of $3880 I would be interested, especially if you are in the Boston area.

That must be amazing to be able to buy that many great cameras! I need to get a better job...

:)

My office is down cape but i live in the boston area. PM me for an offer. I feel anything under $4200 is fair.

My background is mostly film, and i was amazed by how much the HVX's footage and function resembled an arri 16. I wish i purchased the camera's today so that i could get the great Panasonic rebates and p2 card.

The math from another authorized dealer results like this:

$5193 - Brand spanking new HVX200
-$1200 - Free 8Gig P2 Card
-$360 - New Battery x 3.
-$80 - Barry's Book and CD
---------------------------------------
$3553 for a new camera minus the rebates and discounts.

Unless I was buying new from an authorized dealer I wouldn't see paying more than $3,800 for a used HVX200 without P2 cards. Maybe if you had a case or something you could throw in to sweeten the deal. But it looks like you're in a hard place because I think used prices will drop even more once the Red One comes out and a flood of people race to unload their HVX200s and HDV cameras.
