First day using the HVX200 with AxioHD/PPro2 and I must say it's delightful! Actually thought it might be nightmarish.
With Pana's analog HD component, and Axio HD's HD SDI, it begs for an AJA HD10a, but voila!, the AxioHD 1394 port will capture 720/60p, 30p and 24p direct from the camera. Device control oddly works only after you manually begin the playback from the camera, but after that, all capture window device control keyboard functions work (record, stop, FF, REW).
With a 1394 capture window open, if you toggle through the camera's shooting modes, the native and 1080i modes simply freeze the video in the capture window.
Question for Jan, Barry or anyone who knows: is the above an electronic circuitry issue? I ask because Axio has an HDV capture mode (1080i) via 1394, so I naturally assumed other HVX 1080i modes might work.
Is this because the HVX's 1080i is not long GOP I-frame like HDV? Or is it simply a circuitry design within the HVX? Same with native modes?
MXF support, demoed at NAB, is right around the corner for Axio. Can't wait!
On a sidenote, I tried converting MXF to AVI via Raylight demo, and the results were a little judderish, and Axio forced a render on the entire clip....not the best workflow, so I don't mind a couple of months of "old-style" capture. Still, no tape and no moving parts! Sweet.
