Hvx200 24p uncompressed?

Hello all. Is there a card or software out there that can enable me to get 1080/24 progressive frames uncompressed? I was told in another forum that all hd is compressed when it comes out the firestore or the camera. I am lost a bit. Please help. Thank you so much in advance.

It is a modification to the camera that takes the data straight off the chips and outputs it through a gigabit ethernet cable for Direct to Disc recording of uncompressed footage visit the links Jack listed for you above.

from a professional standpoint, is this worth it? voiding the warentee and does television chanels use this or hvx200 alone will work fine? I am sorry I am asking to many questions. I just want to invest wisley.

the hydra systems sounds amazing, but wouldn't it be a ridiculous hassle? i mean first you need a laptop on set with a seriously HUGE harddrive...if normal HD is around a gig a minute wouldn't this uncompressed format be huge in file size? Then wouldn't you also need a seriously long USB cable? or else wouldn't this just be a pain trying to navigate your shots dragging this cable behind you?

Yes, from the begining I have always found this workflow too much of a pain in the arse. If they ever came up with a solution where you could maybe record directly into a firestore THEN it would be interesting. Plus there's not support for windows.

We've discussed this a million times, but it goes like this:

1) yes you'd need a computer. So? Anyone who's ever used DV Rack is likely to never want to shoot without a computer on set again. Any professional shoot I've been on in the last three years has had at least one, if not more laptops active -- between monitoring, script supervising, storyboard/script revision, etc.

2) Yes there's a cable. So? It can be 300 feet long. I haven't been near a shoot that hasn't had at least four cables coming off the camera (mic 1, mic 2, headphones, and firewire or video output). So what's one more? Use some velcro and add it to the cable snake.

Now, you may find this inappropriate for your workflow. Fine, no problem, don't use it -- you still have a fully-functional HVX200. But if the prospect of 14-bit uncompressed HD at 2K resolution and variable frame rates appeals to you... it really doesn't seem much of a penalty at all!

Someone asked earlier about the voiding of the warranty. I know that the Reelstream site says that the mod will in fact void the manufacturer's warranty.

To people's knowledge, was this a problem with Andromeda and the DVX?

Thanks in advance,
Matt

For the hydra, not USB, an ethernet cable.
So it can be 100' long.

One ethernet cable is not a deterrent to me, considering all the cables and wires that run from a camera on a film shoot.

It's no more cumbersome than a boom mic.
