HVX workflow

I realize shooting in HD will require using the P2 cards. Does any one have an idea of how the workflow will be for on set? Do you have to buy one of those docking stations where it dumps to a hard drive or is it going to be able to plug right into a lap top and dump to that? Also what will the editing work flow look like?

you could record to P2 or to a laptop directly, or to a firestore HD, or to tape with DV, or to a DVCPRO HD deck over firewire. so P2 certainly isnt the only way .. and theres a whole slew of possible workflows really.

There are reams written about this, so look to the past threads and the P2 Whitepaper for lots of info.

Short answer: laptop is totally viable, no need for the P2 Store or even a P2 card if you don't want to use one. And editing will be dramatically easier than with HDV or even DV -- just plug the card in and start editing. Several editing apps already support the format.

Barry specifically what format, as you are aware 1080i can be quite demanding on a computer, what do you think the best system config would be good to accomadate the huge data, for editing and playback.

Thanx

Both Avid and FCP are already showing multiple streams playing in realtime. Obviously you're going to want a fast computer, as the 1080 frame has 4x the data of a DV frame... but it's still infinitely easier to handle than HDV, and HDV editing is already fairly prevalent.
