HVX Wedding

Dude, I dont know what to sound mean. The only thing that was decent was the color, or color correction (not really grainy). It was shaky.. OIS on? Tripod, monopod will solve this :) no format, no story telling. You have like 50 views, but no onereally comments, standard around here. Show us a wedding they will have to say somthing :)

lighting dude. lighting. it was too dark. try getting some daytime footage to test out your quality/footage/etc. if you don't have any lighting.

surjones - what is OIS?

OIS = Optical Image Stabalizer

Dark Wedding = Poopy footage (I did one too.. it came out really bad!)
Live and learn..
Work on your handheld skills.. very rough..
OR
Use a tripod..
OR
Get an inexpensive handheld rig
www.spiderbrace.com

You should export your VIDEO through COMPRESSOR..
I'm bad at explaining the settings you need, someone else?????

KEEP SHOOTING!
Lets see some more structured stuff from you...
WEDDINGS SUCK!

Good luck, and keep it up!

Not to sound harsh but, I come from a wedding background and that just hurt my eyes... Just looked bad all the away around from picture quality to camera operation. Keep up the work work on flushing out a story and showcasing the day, as well as developing more solid camera skills. Check out www.wedvidpro.com or videouniversity.com. Or one of my friends sites who interned with me for a while. www.CinematicBride.com

Handholding takes practice, but it can be done, here's a clip.

The footage is shakey, but don't be afraid to hand hold, it takes practice practice practice. I am no longer shooting weddings, but I did it for a 2-3 years ending early in 2004. I was swayed back to duty for one final job in 2005 and I was no longer as steady as I was before (out of practice)....for what it's worth that clip is still online, so I moved it around so you could see the trailer. The compression does not do it justice. It was shot on Sony Z1Us HDV. Focus was tough with that camera considering you could not use the focus assist during shooting. I bought a Z1U and sold it after the shoot.

Everything shot here was hand held or tripoded. 90% or more was likely hand held.

For what it's worth they insisted on this song. A bit dramatic.

Man.. didn't know if I was watching a wedding vid or the opening to a Tony Scott movie. Was really so produced.. Looked sweet for a wedding vid. The song was kind of too much for such a thing.. I kept on waiting for the swat team and the crap to break out...

Cam looked pretty good... Slow mo in post was pretty nice.. but I've been spoiled by the Slow mo on the HVX...

great thread heist btw...

I thought it was a bit dramatic, but as you may notice, they insisted on this song.

I sold the Z1U as I would rather use an HVX.

You like that thread heist ;) Wasn't my intention, but now that you mentioned it...

No problem guys! Thanks for all the feedback. I have A LOT to learn and you guys are definitely right, keep shooting and shooting. I used a monopod because I wanted to be more mobile, but goodness ... I should have just stuck with a tripod! I need tips on color correcting, if anyone has reference on the net or books, please shoot them this way! Hopefully with practice (crosses fingers) I can get better. Awesome wedding videoes shot from other members though! If I can be 1/10th as good as some of the footage on here, I'll be happy! Take care guys.

ill just say that . my two cents ... the hvx is NOT a handheld handycam style camcorder. And the OSI also sucks .. the camera is just too side heavy . You need to hold it by the handle or some how have a shoulder hard mount . also its about 2 or more stops too dark . but im sure you allready have herd this from others .

I recomend using the zoom on the camera and have the camera either on your knee or on a table not only will this improve your frameing but it will also give you some nice depth of feild if you so desire to have that .

also the constant zooming in and zooming out is cheesy don't do it .

just because its a wedding video doesn't mean it has to look like a wedding video .

Chris, you only had one cam on that shoot?

No, I generally used 2 shooters... with 4 cameras up during the ceremony and 2 during the reception.

This wedding was 3 shooters... with 5 cameras up during the ceremony and 3 during the reception.

I shot around 75% of the shots in that clip. Normally, a clip like that I would have shot 95%, but I was so out of practice at the time that I felt the need to have 3 people and I leaned on one of them more than normal as I knew he could do a great job.

chris

I work with an outfit in Bev Hills - We frequently use p2 cards for high end weddings that last 6+ hours.. the secret? 4-6 8GB p2 cards + a laptop

Hey how did you keep the grain low. I was impressed by the lack of video noise?
What settings did you use for the low light?

what 13k? for a wedding? what???
who?

the footage is remarkably good looking even in that darkness. I understand you had to keep it unobtrusive as possible.

overall, it was not bad. kept the mood of the place at least. I hate direct onboard cam-lights.
