HVX vs DVX in 24p SD

My HVX shoots grainy video in 24p SD as compared to my DVX. I have shot 3 weddings since i got my HVX, which i bought as a HD compliment to my SD DVX. I haven't shot any HD yet, but using a 2 camera shoot with my DVX it's quality is worse. I know people will say get the HVX book and use the lo light scene file, which i have on the last one. It does look better, but still not as good as my DVX. Obviously I'm upset, please someone help me match my shots to look better together.

HVX is a noisy camera. It drives me nuts. I use everyone's suggestions, and I still get noise, specifically in places where there's a solid color, it has bad noise I've yet to find out how to get rid of.

HVX will require more light. You can try using a 220 degree shutter, the motion will blur a little more but you will get a little less noise. Also, dont use cine D, try the black press or cine V settings. The HVX, even without any gain, will get very noisy in many situations, mostly when there is a lack of light.

Another thing to try is to boost the coring, that will help with the solid color noise...

I would rate the HVX at roughly 320 ISO, whereas the DVX seems to be 400+. Also, it seems like the HVX's default 0db gain is closer to the limit than the DVX as evidenced by the difference in noise between the cameras when you use gain.

When people say it needs more light, that's exactly right. Compared to the DVX it is a slower camera, and will show more noise compared to the DVX in the same situation. If you were to light to compensate for that ~100ISO difference you should get comparable noise.

You can't change the ISO rating of the camera -- that is a measure of the light sensitivity of the CCDs, how much light the lenses gather, and how the signal is processed internally.
