HVX under concert lighting

Just to further the anticipation of the camera. How do ya'll think this camera will handle under a concert lighting setup in SD and HD? I just got back from one today and the LD killed me with all this red wash. Focus is near impossible and I end up with so much bleed from the red. I'm shooting with an XL1 until the 200 is here. I'm just hoping it can deal with bright rim lighting and stage wash, etc.

Thanks

It mihgt be hard to hold hanheld for the duration of a concert, based upon the stuff I've heard. Especially if you're moving for the crowd. You'd be holding it up with both hands over heads, leaving your ribs right open for the elbows of thousands of jackasses who drank a case of beer beforehand and find it necessary to "mosh" by the standards of the general public (ie, beat the poo poo out of everyone)

... I had some bad concert experiences

But most people i know use Tripods anways if you're taping shows. ARe you using a tripod?

Spence,

Yes I almost exlusively shoot concerts on sticks. I would pass off the nasty job of going handheld to someone else. I too have had some nasty things happen at shows. I have opted to get a camera riser for just this situation.. but it ends up being a place for people to hang out and put their beer on. Man, I've gotten snappy at some events for that. Believe it or not, at a gig over xmas while I was shooting a woman put her elbow out and rested it on the front of my XL1. It was the worst thing I've seen and if she wasn't a woman... Well, anyway. I'm used to big studio cams as well so the HVX is light comparatively. I lugged it around for an hour last week.

I tell you what then Spencer... a kickass concert in HD.. now that will be something.

This is a test that me and Envision did in LA back at dvexpo.. we had a nightclub scene.. with a disco ball, strobe lights, tons of smoke and flashing spots.

The HVX held up fantastic.. we thought we would break the codec but it didnt. This was with the 3 way shootout, and the JVC HDV didnt break either.. but the sony HDV sure did.

very cool. Thanks for the info Jarred. If I had the camera here this month I'd be shooting George Clinton... unfortunately not P-FUNK on this run.
