I read on a review somewhere that you can record DVCPROHD to tape on the HVX. THen other reviews it says you cant. I couldnt fnd anything on thr Pana website and I tried searhing these forumsm before posting this.
Question is... What formats can you record to tape or HD tape?
Thanks.

Only DV to the miniDV tape.

You could pipe the firewire output straight to an external DVCPRO-HD deck and record DVCPRO-HD to tape that way. But keep in mind that the cheapest DVCPRO-HD tape deck is $25,000. If the HVX were able to record DVCPRO-HD to its tape, it'd be about four times bigger than it currently is, and cost at least $25,000.

How much work is it for engineers to use the tape mechanism to record at a faster rate -i.e. for example, double the bandwidth or data rate by speeding up the tape by a factor of 50 or 100%? Would it be much work to derive 150 Mbits/seconds while having DVPro HD tape record at 17 minutes instead of 33?

Sony did this once for DVCAM. They made a DVCAM deck that could record or play back at 4x speed, for quick ingest or transfer of footage at 100 megabits instead of 25.

That DVCAM deck (remember, we're talking about standard-def DV, not high-def) cost $80,000. A regular-speed DVCAM deck was around $6,000.
